Starting today, rylee has had greenish/clearish/yellowish colored "goop" oozing from his left eyeball. It very much resembles what humans have in the morning, but to a little larger extent. His eye looks a little red also. This hasn't happened yet and we are a little worried, but we don't want to necessarily take him to the vet and pay $75 for them to tell us he is fine.

He is also pawing at his eye a good amount, so it does seem to bother him, other than that he is regular old Rylee, no lethargy or odd behavior....

That is an eye infection, your vet will most likely prescribe you with antibiotic / eye drop, the pawing will make infection worst, you may want to get him an e-collar so that he cannot get to it. In the mean time, you can use saline solution to wash and flush the area, it will also help "crusted" solidify area. You may also use gauze to gently wipe off the pus away from the eye. I hope Rylee feels better soon, speedy recovery!
Took Rylee to the vet today - was a major hassle seeing as I live MA and we got hit pretty bad by an ice storm -
anyway the vet said Rylee must have gotten some dirt or something small (im thinking cat litter) in his eye that irritated it pretty badly,we left with some nice doggie eye drops and he seems to be doing better already :) yay
Hot compresses. soak a washcloth, heat it in the microwave, test it on your own eye, and if you can barely stand it, press it onto the dog's eye for as long as it can take it. I think the dog will let you know if it's hot enough to do real damage.
