I know I'll get almost crucified for this, but Penelope had been on Purina Pro Plan since we've had her. The breeder had her dogs on it (Basically because it was more affordable for all the dogs she has) and the vet recommended she stay on that. She did well with it, I know it wasn't natural and I did research through dogfoodproject.com and dogfoodanalysis.com. Well, I know it wasn't the best. I had been looking to switch her to a more high quality food and my husband resisted a little at first. Then, she got sick and PPP formula changed. She didn't seem to do as well anymore. I talk to my breeder and she told me she did not like the new formula (as well as several other breeders) and switched all her guys and gals to a more premium food. She is still looking at some other foods because she loves their new food, but finds the stools kind of soft from what they should be. So, we are keeping each other posted on what we find with these foods.

It is hard to find good, premium food where I am. I was looking into what was available and good for little Penny. My three choices were narrowed to Blue Buffalo Chicken and Rice, Wellness Super5 with Chicken, and Halo Spot's Stew, again Chicken. I read all the labels, looked at all the ingredients for what should be avoided, and looked at proteins, fats, etc. I went with the Halo since the store did not have Blue Buffalo at this time and Halo had a little more protein than Wellness. I was wondering if anyone here uses that and how their corgi's do with it? It seems like a good choice if she does well with it, but I hadn't found much information about it. Reviews from users have been very positive on pet store sites. I'm still willing to try the others, but we'll see how this works for now I think. Also, I was surprised to see that Ellen DeGeneres was part owner of this since I typically shy away from "celebrity" products, but really the ingredients in this appear to be much better than others like Rachel Ray or Caesar Millan products.

Personally, I feed my little one wellness Super5 puppy and love it. When I first got him, the breeder had him on Diamond and had very watery eyes. After switching him to Wellness, the problem went away. I am going to switch him to Wellness Core in a couple of months since he is almost a year old.
Like Jessica, we also feed Sidney Wellness (Super 5). We had him on CORE OCEAN, but I felt he was not being super-active and I know they need to be very active to tolerate the high protein foods well. Super 5 seems to be working very well for him and he likes it.

I do feed my cats the HALO brand. They like it very well and have had no problems associated with it.

Good luck and congrats for switching away from Purina. Don't feel bad, I used to feed my two old dogs Beneful (I know, I know) before getting Sidney and getting educated about quality dog foods!
Well so far, I am switching my little one to Blue Buffalo. She loves it! She started out on Diamond and then I switched her to Avoderm, which she only liked the lamb formula our other dog was eating than the puppy formula. I guess Blue is more palatable than Avo is.
I think I was going to go with Blue, but the Petco in my area only sells the Blue cat food. They don't carry the dog food for some reason. But, Halo seems so far, so good at this point. I'm waiting to complete the transition from her old food to really tell and see how her little body does with the digestion. Also, I looked into Avo Derm and they boasts there is avacado there for health skin and coat, but avacados are quite toxic to dogs, why would they even boasts that right on the front of the bag and put it in there at all?
There are parts of the avocado that isn't poisonous to dogs. I'm not sure if Avoderm uses those parts or not or that particular species of avocados.

I don't like it personally, it makes my tummy hurt. So, being tired of the gas from the pups, we decided to switch them.

The food is great for their coat. It is a 4 star product. At the time, we thought it was the only food Cloud, our Weim, could eat until I started to investigate further into foods. Overall, Blue seems to be really tasty to both dogs as Cloud was finally fighting for his food. For the last month, he didn't care whether or not Freya ate it but with Blue he does.
Freyja is Penelope's second name on her registration papers! How did you guys come up with that? With used Greek and Norse mythology for her name.
We feed Basso Halo and he LOVES it. Our breeder had him on good food, I was just looking to switch him to something Holistic and this was the best I found. Basso does great on it! His coat is so shiny and soft which is odd because his coat is very wirey. I also have my cat on Halo and it made a complete turn around for that cat. He always had hairballs and such and he hasn't gotten sick once since switching him. Also, if you sign up at the website www.halopets.com, they routinely send you coupons.
Thanks so much for replying. That sounds great. I did sign up actually last night because they seem to have some pretty good cupons because it is slightly pricey. Did Basso have any problems digesting the food in the beginning or any time after? I know that it often takes about a week or a little more form their systems to regulate with the food.
It's kind of pricey, but Petco has that thing where if you buy 9 bags in a year, you get a free one. Do you have the Petco Pals card? If not, definatly get it because you get a discount on the food. No he had no problems with the switch, but he also has a cast iron stomach! That dog will eat A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G!!!!!!! But if you read on the website, it'll tell you how to sucessfully switch the foods.
Those were the three that I was considering when I was switching her from Nutro. I decided agains Blue Buffalo because they had had a food recall in the past. The Halo and Super5 hadn't. Then I decided to go with the Super5 because it had more flavor choices.
Caleb is on Wellnes Super5 with Chicken, and it has done wonders for his coat! It is much sleeker and shinier than it was when I first got him! Other friends of mine with dogs that switched to wellness have noticed the same thing! I can't say enough good things about it.
Ditto. Sidney started with puppy Wellness, went to Core Ocean before I decided he should have less protein, on to Super 5 Chicken. His coat is so soft and silky! He's doing great on it.
