I know, the fur is endless, right?
I'm not sure how often to brush, maybe as needed. We only need to furminate Sid every couple weeks at most, he's not a heavy shedder. He does not seem to mind it very much. I should furminate my corgi mix a few times a day, it's so bad. But he hates it and runs away when he sees the brush in my hand. He's 14 and so I try not to stress him out. I just vacuum more often and count my blessings I still have him with me. It figures, the one that really needs it is the one who is afraid of it!

I think its on a as needed basis, but every day probably would not be a bad thing. These furminator brushes are amazing, pricy, but worth it!

AGREED! fur never ends. Especially around the back legs/end. The other parts go pretty quickly.

I haven't gotten this disciplined, but before I got a corgi I read if you just spent 5-10 minutes every day, it works great. I imagine if you did it DAILY, the fur would definitely end. I also think you shouldn't do it for too long at a time as it can irritate the skin and you do end up pulling out hair that is not ready to come out?

That's my take. ( I currently only do about once a week, but hope to do better in the future)

I have two Corgis -- my big boy is an Olympic-class shedder (Shedding for the U.S.A.! woo-woo) and my little girl has a light coat and barely sheds at all. Sooooooo -- I furminate the big guy as often as I can -- if I have time to do it everyday, I'll just do a part of him at a time (like his shaggy, clumping rear one day, and then his back and/or sides another). The little girl doesn't get furminated at all. Her coat is so thin, I would imagine it would hurt her and be very unpleasant. The furminating IS endless -- he never stops shedding, ever. I keep thinking about those housewives you'd see on TV years ago that made "lint art" out of dryer lint -- there must be something we can do with all this fur! Insulation? Sweaters? Mattresses? At least get a Guiness Book of World Record entry out of it (biggest clump of Corgi fur known to mankind....)

I just saw this nice little furminator tool and I'm going to pick one up. What size do you guys feel is appropriate for a corgi on the larger side of the scale? I'm finding that medium seems to be the universal answer with everything else I look at.

Yes, I have the medium for my slightly larger fellow, and it's a good size. My friends with GSDs and Goldens have the larger size. The small was just too little to get all that fur off of him!

I would not furminate daily. While I think this is a great grooming tool I also believe it pulls out some very viable hair. I use several tools, a nice pin brush, a soft slicker brush, a greyhound comb and a rake. Most of my pals that show dogs would never dream of using this tool as it does take out coat that is much desired. I they are in the middle of a coat blow I do use it and finish with a comb and pin brush. If the comb or rake is not removing any hair then you would not want to use the furminator as they are really not shedding much.
Depending on their diet and the climate of where you are they may shed constantly. Many FL dogs sure do.

I agree. I have a heavy shedder and last year furminated a lot. I noticed that his hair on his back side started looking ragged; not so nice. I now just use 2 grooming brushes (I think one is called a slicker brush). They take out as much fur as a furminator and Butter's fur looks so much nicer. His backside has grown in nicely again.

When I did use the furminator I found the same thing as the writer...it never ended, you could literally do it all day. I don't think it got me any further ahead because the next day he would be dropping hair again.

We have learned to vacuum a lot (in fact we never bother putting it away). Good luck!

Wait untill summer and you will start thinking that with so much fur, you can "make" another corgi. I love the furminator, and also the cheaper version from Bamboo. Having a corgi= you need a furminator. I furminate every weekend, either Saturday or Sunday.
