I talked to vet about spaying Freya and I just wanted to know...how common is it for the vet to couple spaying with baby teeth removal? Is it a necessary procedure--the teeth removal, i mean?
Ethel also had to have her 2 upper baby canines pulled when she was spayed. The adult teeth were in, so there were 2 teeth where there should have only been 1, and it could have cause real dental issues. My understanding from the vet, is that it is quite common to pull the baby teeth while under the anesthetic IF the adult teeth have erupted and there is no sign of the baby teeth coming out on their own.
Thanks for your help everyone! I'm hoping that Freya lost her baby teeth so I don't have to worry about them removing any. I know she lost two this week so far and I have one from another time. At the end of the month, we'll get her spayed...I'm so nervous.
Rosie also had to have 2 baby teeth removed when she was spayed. They weren't coming out and her adult teeth were coming in. It wasn't a big deal. She ate like a horse the next morning.
I know! The Vet said that Ethel would have a "sore" mouth and might not want kibbles -- but she scarfed her regular meal down without blinking. Sore, my bunny butt! And she was a little sleepy when she came home from the spaying after a night in hospital, but her old self by nightfall. I'm sure your little one will do just fine, too!
