So we just got Optimus neutered on Monday. He's been wearing a cone which has kept him from chewing on his stitches (believe me, he's tried), but he does something else that really surprised me. Little ol' Oppy will sit down on his butt and with his front paw, scratch himself down there. The first time I saw him doing it I couldn't stop laughing because of how perverted my mind is and what it looked like he was doing. I guess it's cause corgi legs are short enough to do that. Regardless, we try and stop him whenever we see him do it just so he doesn't get the stitches infected or anything. Has anyone else's corgis done this?

Oh Optimus - that is not polite! My Tucker spent the night at the vet without a cone after getting neutered a few weeks ago - because he made them believe he was trustworthy. Overnight he really went to town licking his stitches and was all raw and red :( Needless to saw he had to wear a cone for a week after that. He never figured out how to scratch himself with his paw - but he did rub the cone against himself to get some scratching in. The vet gave me an antiseptic spray that also seemed to help with the itching. Maybe something like that would help? Or maybe some doggie shorts?

I hope Optimus is all healed up soon so he can get rid of that cone! They always look so pathetic with it - but also kind of cute.
We tried putting a shirt on his lower half, but he wiggled out of that within 5 minutes. He just needs to survive a couple more days. He's been a little less itchy each day that's passed.
