I live around Sacramento, CA and our summers are HOT, and today is no different. Sadie always has a lot of fresh water and doesn't even seem to drink all that much of it. Although, you can definetly tell she gets hot during the day and when she wants to take a nap she usually finds comfort on the tile, which is slightly colder.

Do any of you guys do anything special for your dogs during the summer time? She always seems to be hot and I do provide her with more then enough water, but I was wondering if there was anything else I could do to possibly cool her down. Thanks!

i've been giving charlie ice cubes when its hot. i'm in southern california and it was like 100 degrees yesterday, yeesh! but i just put one or two ice cubes in a bowl for her and she just LOVES to chew on them.
Can ice cubes crack teeth?
What about some kind of semi-frozen slurpy made out of soaked kibble, applesauce, pumpkin or something, served ice-cold?
Yup. My dog's teeth did. We've been advised against giving large ice cubes by animal dentist. He said giving slushy (plain, not sweet) or small ones should be ok though. :)
i have heard they can crack teeth, but i usually give her small bits (crushed) so she can eat em. that way she wont choke either. i just take a couple in a bag and smash em against the counter since our fridge no longer crushes them for me :(
we're in LA too and it's been crazy hot here. we leave a fan on for him in the morning and lots of water. after lunch we had to leave the ac on for him and put ice in his water. we limit his afternoon walk to just a bathroom break (increase his morning and evening walks) then we played inside. right after he comes in from being outside in the extreme heat he take a cool damp cloth and put it on his belly and in his arm pits. the key with this cool NOT cold.
Pack 'em in snow (corgicicle):

Failing that, Total Immersion. Failing that, soak their belly fur (place corgi upside-down between your legs and pour on the water). Wetting a corgi is like trying to wet a duck. I might try a white wet T-shirt this summer. And that time-honored siesta.
Cute pictures. I love the...doggles? Sun goggles thingies...very cute.
I was looking to get either this

or

this

I live in Georgia and we can get some seriously hot and humid days. I'll probably get Freya a crate fan too, to help circulate the air better.
I froze a water bottle, put paper towel around it, and put it under my dog's belly. She stopped panting after a while, and fell asleep. It was hot yesterday, but we'll have another hot day in Sacramento!

I also bought a plastic kiddy pool (hard one) last year, so she can go soaking in the summer. :)
