I recently switched my puppies food (to Blue Buffalo, which she loves) but I have noticed her stools have become really dark. They are hard and formed, it is not soft or mushy at all, but it is just really dark brown. Do you think this means anything or do dogs just have different shades of brown stools?

(sorry, kind of an odd question)

A change in food can also cause a change in their stool. I have never fed my dogs Blue Buffalo but I have noticed that the premium brands seem to cause smaller, darker and firmer stools that the cheap grocery store brands. Because of the higher quality ingredients you usually don't have to use as much food and more of the ingredients actually seem to be used instead of eliminated. I wounldn't worry unless she gets constipated and seems to be straining to use the bathroom. Firm stools are much better than runny stools. It is best to slowly change their food instead of all at once and that can help with any digestive issues.
Thanks it is probably just because of her new food, I will try not to worry as much! =)
