Dog Food

So currently I have my 3 dachshunds and my corgi on Purina One Healthy Weight, but it seems as though one of my dachshunds is almost gaining weight on it. They do not get table food and are only fed once a day. My question is, is can anyone recommend a good healthy weight/light dog food?

Purina is pretty low on the quality scale. I recommend this one:

Canidae Platinum. My overweight corgi mix was on this and did very well. It costs more but since there are virtually no fillers you will have to feed less.

I give my dogs Blue Buffalo Weight Control Chicken they love it. My Sheltie gets 1 cup a day, Corgi gets 1 1/2 cups.

It really evens out pretty well, with needing to feed less. And the difference in quality is really worth it :-)

Well, the dog I used to buy it for is now on a prescription diet, but I used to get it at a store called Kahoots (which I think is a Southern California chain). If you go to the Canidae link I think there is a place where you can find where they sell it in your area.

Blue Buffalo you use less and they poop less also. I buy it at Petsmart and Petco for about $40 for a 30lb bag.

We feed Wysong Anergen Cat/Dog Food (we have 3 cats 1 dog). We try to follow the BARF diet as suggested by his breeder. Porter got a little hefty due to my husband overfeeding him, but he's losing now...

He gets 1/4 cup Wysong Kibble, 4 oz. raw meat 1/4 cup green beans. 2ce a day.

It's pricey when compared to Purina because you can't buy it in a 40# bag. There are no preservatives, so it comes in 5# vacuum sealed bags. The price recently jumped from $5.99 a bag to $8.99 and I'm not sure what's up with that. A high quality pet food store just opened, so I'm going to check there. Will check out Blue Buffalo and Canidae as well. Thanks for sharing!

Canidae is a great food because it doesn't have any fillers in it and it has a balanced blend of nutrients. Because of this you don't have to feed your dog as much of this. My guy gets 1/2 a cup in the am and 1/2 a cup in the pm and that's all he needs! It also makes his coat look amazing!!!
