When I was at the mall the other day, I went into the pet store. . . BIG Mistake!! They had a little Pem girl that was just adorable, and on sale. . .but then I rationalized - she might only cost me $300, but in the long run, I can't afford another dog right now. Plus I have my hands full with Blaze. :) So, I got to thinking, are pet store puppies all that bad?? I got Blaze from a breeder, and was curious - did most of you get your corgi(s) from a pet store or a breeder?? This inquiring mind wants to know!!

Ok guys, remember "BE NICE" to to other owners feelings, this is a sensitive subject and may get a little heated. Let me know if it gets out of hand and I will "kill" the thread.

Now to answer your question, we got Mocha & Vienna from 2 different breeders. There were times that we were tempted to get one from the mall, but after watching the puppymill's video, we just couldn't do it. The bottom line is all dogs deserve our love, no matter where they're from. This is our view only and we're okay with others who feel differently :)
I'm so sorry Sam, didn't mean to cause trouble, just curious. :)
no, not at all Arlette, I know sometimes topics like these can get heated, so i'm just reminding everyone to be nice and respectful. I want our site to be helpful, educational and friendly :)
me too. . .I think it is great that there is a wide variety of people and opinions here - some have already helped me!
p.s. I think I am more addicted to "mycorgi" than "myspace"!!
I know I am more addicted to mycorgi then I am to facebook. Haha.
We got Zed from a shelter. He was picked up as a stray and needed a home. I agree with Sam's comment that every dog deserves to be loved. Just to throw another option in there, when you get ready for another dog consider a rescue puppy.
I am definetly going to consider a rescue as my next option, but living in Indiana, there's not alot of ANYTHING - not even any agility!! (but I would drive for a rescue)
Lakeshore covers Indiana.

We're not too terribly far from one another, I'm in central IL!
thanks 4 the link!! :) let me know if there are any corgi meet-ups in the area. . .ROAD TRIP!!
I tried to rescue a corgi from a rescue but they will not adopt to any family with children. It didn't matter if the dog was kid friendly or not. A lot of the rescues in my area of the world are like that so my husband and I were forced to get a puppy. We wanted very much to rescue a dog in need but we were told our home would not be good enough because we have children. I was soooooo disappointed because my home is just as good as someone elses with double the love to go around. I don't mean to offend anyone but it was an experience that happened to me and my family. I did try to get a dog from the shelter last week however it was very ill and was no longer able to be adopted.
This is strictly my opinion but I will NEVER EVER purchase from a pet store and hope others never do either. The dogs themselves might be fine, might seem/be healthy, might be well cared for and might be from health-screened parents. And they most certainly are cute and sweet and lovable and everything else puppies are. But (big BUT you have to think about the BIG picture rather than this one dog. By buying a pet store puppy, you are feeding the industry of large-scale dog breeding operations. If you buy this puppy, it will not "save" or "rescue" a puppy as some think when they look into those sad eyes at the pet store. Because another puppy will soon be shipped in or bred to replace it. Therefore, the cycle continues simply BECAUSE you purchased that puppy, created more business for the pet stores and they in turn bought more from the large-scale breeders. You are part of the problem, not the solution when you buy animals from pet stores. As hard as it sounds, leave those puppies there. When we stop buying from them, pet stores will notice where it matters (their bottom line) that selling puppies isn't profitable and they will stop buying them. Follow that back to the source and the large scale breeders won't find it profitable anymore to breed and over breed dogs and will find another business where they CAN make money. So, it's less about if pet store puppies are all that bad and more about whether the industry as a whole is all that bad. I think it is.

To answer you question, Sully is from the Lakeshore Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club's rescue program and I will always rescue whenever possible.
Our dogs came from breeders. I was clueless about it all, until I started looking for our first puppy. I realized quickly how awful puppy mills are. I wish everyone could see the horrors of the puppy mill.

I believe all dogs should be treated with respect and kindness no matter where they were purchased. They all need love.
