I wanted to breed my corgi, Ein, with a female but just can't escape the whole cons of the idea. I mean, if I don't get him fixed then there is a chance he could get cancer. But even if I do get him fixed now, his habits will still be there from when he wasn't fixed, right? I would like to have a puppy of his, just because he was an adorable little boy and I know my mother-in-law would love one of his puppies. But is it right to want to breed him? And if I do get him fixed, I want to get his 'junk' cut off. I was told this was a no-no because it could alter the personality of the dog. Is this true? If you guys could help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

LOL....my dogs name is Ein too....... just like the cartoon. But I had him fixed as soon as he could when he was a pup and honestly, He is just the same Super-Goof that he has always been. I don't think it would be wring if you want to breed him if you intend to just do it once.... I think everyone should have Einer-pups. And when you mean "junk" I hope you are only talking about the berries...lol. But my Ein has not had any personality changes and that has been over a year ago and he is still the same....so I say no worries.
I would say no to breeding. Although I agree he is amazing and looks almost related to my boy Keenan we have a boy and girl and wished we could have their "puppies" but worked out for the best that they aren't. Ana the girl ended up having major hip problems which should not be passed along. Although we got her from a great breeder who even has a best of breed for westminster, you just never know, even going through testing like her parents had. Also there are a lot of corgis and it may be hard to find quality homes for the puppies. You could get rid of them but it may not be to the right families, are you prepared to do a screening process? Also for the females there is always a chance that something could go wrong, being on the male side it may be easier but it would be awful if the female had complications for her or the puppies. Getting him fixed does not alter the personality of the dog. The only thing it does is make them calmer around females so their minds aren't racing about constantly reproduction so this helps with aggression as well. Our boy was done around 7 months which is late for pups now but he is the same clown, fun little boss he always has been. You could absolutely no difference. I know it's a sensitive topic and my boyfriend did not want me to "cut off his junk" because he thought it was too emasculating but it is a great decision and one that a responsible dog owner should make.
Hello. Breeding is a tricky thing. I bought my Dewey from the breeder at South Haven Farm and Janice told me that breeding is not recommended because of complications. Personally, if your mother-in-law wants a Corgi puppy, then I can recommend a great breeder http://www.southhavenfarm.com/ . Personally, I would have your Corgi neutered, no matter if you think that it is too late. My Dewey is neutered and it was a great decision. His personality is not altered at all. He is still his loving self. I went to the Norfolk SPCA and they did a wonderful job at a low price. You just drop off the dog in the morning and pick him/her up after work. The total cost was like $65 or $75 with the pain killers and all. If you want the sack cut off it is like $10 more, I believe. Dewey is calmer now around female dogs and still is a very loving Corgi. The best of luck to you, as you make your decision.
