Gracie is a little over 12 weeks old. We saw for the first time today, her being protective of a ball she found in the yard. She growled and snapped as us when we tried to take away. Any of your pups do that? How do you correct them for this? I don't want her to be like that when she gets older. I had a Chihuahua growing up and no one could enter a room if he had a bone! LOL!

This is a bad thing. I think it comes from competition for resources during time with the litter mates. Leo had a lot of time with just his parents before I brought him home and he does not guard resources at all, even when Randy came. Randy did not and he had 8 littermates and does guard. He gets scolded for it and when he tried it on me with a bone I grabbed his scruff and held him that way while I took the bone, telling him NO. When he calmed down I gave the bone back, he tried it again and I did the same thing. The third time he got the message and I could take the bone and give it back over and over with no more guarding. When Randy does this with Leo he gets set straight by big brother who just picks up the bone or whatever (ignoring the snarling) and walks away with it. It helps to have an older "genius" Corgi to help train the little guy. I make sure there is always more than enough bones, toys, etc. for them so that Randy sees there is no reason to be selfish. There are more experienced owners on here to give you maybe better advice on this...you do need to put a stop to it now while puppy is smaller.
I agree with having plentiful amounts of toys, avoiding the chance of strong attachment to any One Toy. When we first got Eddy, he was bitey, biting everything without thinking. So we would pick up all his toys rapidly one by one and toss them around like a rainshower of toys. He quickly got used to us making fast hand movements for his toys, and it was more fun to let us toss them ( he learned fetch this way too ). What reprimand are you using for biting hands? We did "NO" and/or squirt bottle to the face.
