Hi everyone-
I have a 5 ½ month old corgi that suffers from frequent vomiting. We have had her for about 6 weeks, and since we got her, she has been vomiting a few times a week. We originally fed her puppy chow, which is what the breeder gave her, but last week, we transitioned her to California Natural puppy food (lamb and rice), which I understand to be good for dogs with weak stomachs.

We have taken her to the vet a few times, and the vet first recommended giving her Pepcid AC. The medicine may be working to some extent, but she is still vomiting every few days. The vet recently took some x-rays and said that there doesn't appear to be a blockage or any internal problems.

My wife and I aren't sure what to do next, so any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

How gradual did you change the food over, is she eating all California Natural puppy food now or are you still mixing it with her old food?
We started transitioning on Monday morning, and today was the first day that she ate only Cal Natural.
Maybe that was too fast of a transistion for her, maybe try another week of transitioning the old with the new. Hopefully that will help.
Do you notice what she does right before she starts vomiting? When dax was a puppy, he used to (and still does, just not as frequently) vomit right after he would drink water. Especially if he drank a lot or if he would run/play right after he drank. You might also want to pay attention to WHAT she's vomiting. Just keep an eye on her and see what she's doing before she vomits and that may shed some light on the problem. She may just be finding things around the house to eat that she shouldn't, Dax does that all the time. I also had an experience just last night, I brought Dax to a friend's house and her dog got so excited he couldn't quit vomiting, so it could be excitement making it happen as well. Anyway, good luck in finding the problem.
Thanks. She is usually just laying down when she needs to vomit, and if she is excited, it doesn't seem to happen. She rarely vomits right after eating, and in many instances, it has been 3+ hours after eating. She typically vomits either partially digested food or water, but there doesn't seem to be any non-food stuff in there . She definitely could be eating stuff she's not supposed to, but she is never more than 10 feet away (because we live in an apartment), and I haven't seen her eating non-food.
It sounds strange, but it could just be normal for your dog to vomit a couple times a week. When my Australian Shepherd was a puppy he vomited 2-3 times a week. He slowly grew out of it (once a week... now we are finally to never!). There was nothing wrong with him, and not any particular thing was causing it, he just threw up sometimes. With him I just learned to tell if he was really ill other was, like by how he was acting. If he threw up but was still acting like himself, I didn't worry. If he was acting lethargic or threw up several times in 24 hours, we went to the vet.

Another possibility could be a food allergy (although that is hard to imagine on California Natural since that is what many people give dogs with allergies). Sometimes dogs with allergies will vomit, but not altogether frequently.

Of course, always talk to your vet any time you are concerned about your dogs health. What I had to learn with my little vomit-y puppy though was just to relax and remember that throwing up for dogs is different than humans, it's not always serious. Good luck and I hope your puppy gets to doing better!
be sure to give them a little snack before bed if the vomiting is occurring in the morning. acid reflux could be to blame. ein does this as well. just this morning he gave my husband a nice "happy father's day" greeting. he woke us up then puked on the floor next to the bed :( ein does this when he hasn't had any food in his tummy for a while. its actually quite common. perhaps this is what's up with your pup. if it's a yellow-ish or even foamy concoction i wanna bet its acid reflux. keep us posted!!!
