She is really close in age to Stella, Pancake is born on April 2nd!
I think the Playpen is probably a good idea actually.. I am not really comfortable with crates and Im sure pancake will go crazy in the crate.
Does she sleep in her playpen as well?
I've been puting her in her carrier to sleep overnight so that she'd get used to it, but not until really late--12:00-12:30. Actually, I put the carrier in the pen with the door open the first week that I got her and she voluntarily went in--it's like a den for her, she loves to go in there! Ever since then, I'll take her out one last time at night and put down her carrier and she walks right in!
She has a fluffy pillow bed in the middle of her playpen, too and she takes a lot of naps on it--she's actually asleep on it right now! I understand your concern for overusing crates, but they are actually good for them overnight and dogs like them--like Stella likes her carrier (and of course she has a blanket and a few toys in there, too!). But she's only either in there overnight or when I leave (or in the car, obviously). The pen I bought is fairly big and available at Petsmart. She has her bed and her million toys and bones in there and she still has a lot of space! And even if you just use the playpen for her to sleep overnight, it's still better than leaving her roam. It can be dangerous for a puppy to have the run of the house unless it's SUPER puppy-proofed! Ha! I can't believe that they're a day apart! No wonder they are acting the same!
i'm sure a lot of ppl can say they've all been through the same thing. lol
My little hachi was exactly the same! OMG i was thiknking would she ever grow out of it?
simple answer is YES :D as long as you encourage your puppy to the right direction.
Lets say she's biting you. alot of puppies do that cos they're teething and simply cos they want
to play. also may b e a sign of dominance (i heard its more common with female ones). So if ur
happy to play games which may involve biting and nipping thats fine, but once it starts to hurt or you
want to stop you tell her STOP or something in a really scary voice. if she does just stand up and ignore
until it stops.
and paper eating... yeah it happens. unfortunately it makes a big mess as well. i'd reconmend just getting
toys and chews for your pup. he's probably just bored. =))
Ella is a chewer too. She does it to play with us, as if we are other dogs. She plays with her Brison Frise buddy Bogey this way as well. They will tackle each other and chew on each others heads and necks. I stop her by grabbing that neck flab and tell her "no". If she doesn't stop, I make her get down. The paper thing, the only advice I have is don't leave paper down. Ella loves paper, any kind and it will be in bits in seconds. We keep the bathroom closed most of the time to keep her away from toilet paper. But if she does get some, I guess that's more fiber in her diet. Once I see Ella has paper, I take it way and toss it out (unless important paper).
Good luck.
