Pet Steps?? Suggestions??
Of course we're going to have to come up with something for Soffie so that she can get up into the bed without having to jump. What is eveybody out there using? We have a set that we bought quite awhile ago. They are made of wood with a carpet tread but the stairs are very narrow and Soffie will have nothing to do with those! I've been looking at some online that are all carpeted and much wider (17"). I think she might feel more secure on that. Hope you all have some suggestions!

I'd be interested too...Penny has jumped out of bed a couple of times now and I'm worried about her hurting herself. My mom bought some of those foam stairs and her dogs didn't like them, she said they weren't sturdy and would tip. She put an old hassock at the end of the bed and they use that.

We had the same problem, and the stair we bought were still to short for her. We ended up putting an ottoman which was about half-way between the floor and bed. Now we placed a rubbermaid tote (filled so it doesn't tip over) and a pillow on it. It makes her jumps less extreme, and she actually uses it as a little bed for herself. She still sometimes seem to do a full jump if she's in a hurry.

I know it's very pricey, but I splurged on this two-piece ramp for my guys, and they'll use it (it turned out to be good training for agility, actualy!) It's also pretty big, but I put it on the side of the bed away from the door, so you don't really see it all that much. Funny enough, when visitors see it, they ask me if it's some kind of exercise device! So I always say yeah, and then claim to do 1000 sit-ups a night on it..... The ramp needs to be on top of a carpet, though, otherwise, it can slide around, and then the dogs won't use it. My bed is really high, it was my grandparents and so not really made for these thick mattresses and boxsprings of the modern world, so it's way to high for a Corgi to leap up/off of.

Great ramp, Susan!
We used the first suggestion for years - an ottoman/hassock that the dogs used as a springboard into the bed. Now, he has his own beddie to sleep in, and he prefers that. Some dogs are just more confident than others when it comes to using devices for getting in and out of beds. I don't think Algy would like stairs of any kind.

We bought a set of bed steps and Oliver wouldn't use them he would just stand next to them and whine and then to get off he would jump over them. They were about 16" wide, I think it all depends on your dog's decision.

I guess at the moment even steps will not be an option. Soffie has a complete ACL rupture. Which, they say is unusual in a smaller dog. And I guess, "mom" will have to get used to sleeping alone. Tonight we will be going out to find a larger crate for Soffie to sleep in. We have an appt Monday with an orthopedic surgeon. Looks like we have a long road in front of us.
But.... plz.... keep your suggestions for bed access coming!!

So sorry for Soffie--Good luck with your visit--I'm sure she will be back in bed with you in no time!. The steps I bought were of little use, I put an upholstered chair next to the bed which makes for an easy jump. Lizzie can be a bit of a stinker though... if she doesn't want the others on the bed. She sleeps on the chair and everyone else sleeps on the floor!
