Does anyone have a corgi with bad allergies? Sport has had a lot of problems with allergies lately and I'm wondering what I can do to help him.

Of course, the first thing to do is find out what is causing the allergies. Food is usually the culprit. Try Nature's Balance Limited ingredients, Duck and Potato. Kinda expensive, but worth it. If it is grass or seasonal, you can give him Benedryl. I give my dog Benedryl's Children Meltaways. Just pop them in their mouth, hold it shut for a second, and it starts to dissolve.
What kind of allergies are you referring to and what have been done so far?
He gets allergies from grass outside and also from fleas. I'm giving him his flea treatments, but i guess a few manage to make their way onto him. One flea can drive him crazy.
What kind of reaction will he get after being exposed to grass? Can you describe in details? Also what kind of flea treatment are you referring to OTC or Rx? That way we can narrow down your options.
he's on frontline to repel fleas. and then they also gave him some steriods for the next few weeks to calm his itching.
after grass, he mainly just comes in scratching his stomach and ears. he's pretty much just an itchy puppy.
Talk to your vet about Comfortis, it is more effective than frontline, take it monthly if you need to. You may also want to get Capstar to zap all the exsisting flea when you start taking Comfortis.

You may even have fleas in your house, so clear out your home for half a day and place a few foggers there, make sure you read the instructions and watch out for food and water, wash all your beddings, dog belongings in hot water. Remember that fleas are in cycles, you need to nail both the adult and the eggs at the same time for a period of time to completely eliminate your problem.

Once the steroids finished, it should help calm his skin down quite a bit. if not you may need a second round or a light benedryl for maintenance.
You can also add a flea collar to your vacuum cleaner to rid fleas bedding there. When you bring your pup in from outside wipe him down. Benadryl is one of the safest pills to help rid allergy symptoms and make your dog comfortable. You live in TX and aren't you having cooler temps w/alot of moisture? If so, the fungus might be up in your area adding to this. You may find you'll have seasonal allergies. Like Sam said...capstar will rid of fleas and do your home as well.
My Joe has allergies to almost everything! Sometimes I wonder if he is allergic to dogs. Joe was sick a lot when he was little and after many trips to the Vet we changed his diet and he got better. I also had some allergy tests done on him recently and found he has Fall allergies. My Stella also has allergies to nylon. When she played with nylon toys or bones it irritated her skin. Talk to your vet b/c it could be as simple as adjusting his diet or finding out what toys could be causing the problem. Good luck I hope he feels better soon.
