Hi there, I know there's a thread about So Cal beaches that allow dogs... but I was wondering if anyone knew of any calmer waters to swim in? Conan LOVES to swim, but all we can fit in our yard is a blow up kiddie pool.. and I would like him to get more fun/exercise out of it. Plus we don't have air conditioning, so our poor Corgi gets very hot and tired really easily, especially coming back from a walk when there isn't really anywhere to cool off afterwards.

I know he can swim at a beach, but the waves get pretty rough (hence the name Surf City) and since Corgis are short and long I don't feel as comfortable letting him get too far out in the ocean. Are there any lakes or anything we could go to? Or parks with lakes (that hopefully aren't green and mucky)?

Thanks!

We take Joey up the coast to Ventura beaches. They allow dogs. But Joey can't swim. I wouldn't trust him in an inch of water.
Thanks! We will have to check it out up there sometime. I was surprised Conan liked to swim. He jumped in the pool by himself.. good thing it was a kiddie pool, or we might have had to save him!
The waters at the Long Beach dog beach is pretty clam but not my favorite dog beach.
I haven't been to that one yet. Why don't you like it? Overcrowded? I have seen an increase in uncontrollable dogs at beaches lately. Not sure if summer had anything to do with it, but it kept me away from them for a while.
Long Beach is a large beach but only provides a very small space for the dogs...not a lot of running around for them. I prefer Huntington Beach (Goldenwest & PCH) provides unlimited space for the dogs. I have noticed some unpolite doggie behavior at Huntington Beach this weekend but hopefully now that "summer" is over that will get better. Good luck in finding a "swimming" beach for Conan...my dogs like the water but won't go too far so it is great to know that some Corgis like to swim!
I'll have to check it out. We go to HB dog beach pretty often, but last time we were there Conan got ambushed by a Boxer. It was pretty bad :( So we haven't been back (though I was never too keen on the idea of dog beaches and dog parks because of the poorly controlled dogs) but it is a nice way to get their exercise and socialization in. I'm glad he likes swimming too! It's great exercise and easy on the joints! Thanks again!
Sorry to hear about the incident! I wish there is a way to ban "untrained" owners from places! : ) It is hard to find a good and safe environment for the dogs to play in. Good luck in finding a place for Conan to swim!
That sounds awesome! I'll definitely look into it. That's exactly what I've been looking for! Thanks!
