I was wondering if anyone does lure coursing with their Corgis. Conan has a really intense prey drive and I think he would absolutely love it. Luckily, there is an all breed club that meets relatively close to us. It's about an hour and a half to two hours away, but since it doesn't involve any sort of training really it's not necessary that we go once a week or anything.

However, I am concerned with the amount of physical fitness Conan should have before hand. I have never seen lure coursing in person before and am really terrible at judging distances/lengths. It says the typical course is 400-600 yards, and I figure if a football field is 100 yards, that's a lot of lure coursing in one run. I know they have to be wide and long because of the turns the larger dogs have to make very quickly. I don't want to risk having Conan get any sort of injury. He gets at least one 30 minute walk a day, we try for two. And we take him out to a park to play fetch a few times a week to get some running in. The next trial isn't until October 3rd. Do you think we should step up his physical activity to get him more prepared for a run like that? They say to check with a vet if we're unsure.. but I've never taken a dog to the vet for a physical, so to speak, so I'm not sure they can tell me he'll be okay to run 600 yards by essentially seeing him in the exam room. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Anything is appreciated :) Thanks in advance!

Here's a video that may give you some idea

You can train your corgi to run with you, if you're not a runner, you can also try ride your bike and have him run on the side. Stamina is something that needs to be built up, make sure he drinks plenty of water and not overworked.
Thanks! We will definitely do that. The video is great! I just love their little Corgi butts hopping around at full speed!
That looks like lots of fun. I have never seen it before. Thanks.
We haven't tried it yet, but it looks fun! There are a few all breed lure courses (most are for sighthounds only). If you can find one you should try it! I'm hoping it wears Conan out pretty well!
