Hi Everyone!

Miko is our first Corgi puppy and it has been a while since we had a puppy in the house (our 12 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel died last month). Miko seems to be a good pup and is pretty calm except for his bursts of energy and usually does not bark or nip at people.

However, Miko hates being brushed. I don't think it hurts him because he does not cry, but he just hates the look of any brush! He starts to grow and bark and nip and we do not know what to do about it! Miko does ok with any other type of object, person, animal, etc. He will take a bath with minimal problems as well. It's just the brushing. Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Erika,
I have the same problem with Zoe... She even tries to take the brush from us when we try to brush our older corgi (who loves it!!) It must be a puppy thing... I just keep taking it out and sooner or later she'll get use to it... she's calmed down alot since we got her back in april with the brushing so I would just keep trying...
Good Luck,
Alicia
Nibbler associates the brush with playtime, I think. Because it probably feels like roughhousing or nipping to her. When we first started brushing her she wanted to sniff it and mouth it, so I had to hold her still while I brushed her. She has gotten better but after a few brush strokes she will try to turn her head to bite it. I give Nibbler a dental bone, I think it's called Nutri-Dent, when I am grooming her and it makes the process soooo much easier. It lasts long enough that I can get all of her toenails clipped and filed, and brush her. And plus she loves those bones enough that she will generally ignore anything I"m doing and she only gets them once a week when I groom her so they are extra special! If your puppy likes those then that might work, or a kong or jar with peanut butter smeared in the bottom.
