Looking for a puppy for a friend

A friend of mine's Jack Russel just crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and they are looking for another puppy. They are looking for a Labrador, retriever, or spaniel. Where is a good place to look for breeders in our area?

There is a Spaniel breeder near here, but having seen the place, it is a bit shady.

Any help is appreciated!

Go to the local breed clubs for those breeds and start looking. There is also a great discussion open right now on how to tell a good breeder website from a bad one.

Labs and spaniels are tremendously overbred and there are tons of "bad" specimens out there! I agree with starting with the local breed clubs. Also they want to look into whether they want a field-type or show-type of either of these, as the two types are very different in appearance, energy level, size, etc in the gun dog breeds.
