Advice needed

I was wondering if any of you had had experience with upper respiratory infections with your puppy. I'm not sure, but it seems like Zoey has come down with one. (she has had all her shots so I'm thinking it's not kennel cough?) She has started this weird snorting thing that she has been doing for about a week now and it's got progressively worse. She actually sounds like she is congested in her lungs and nose but there is no mucous drainage from her nose. She is also acting like normal and her appetite is normal. The vet started her on an antihistimine on the 27th in hopes that she did not need antibiotics, but it has not helped. Anyone have experience with something similar?

Hmmm... I don't know. Jackson has been snotty and congested for the last week or two but, it's getting better. I'm not trying to be overprotective mommy and nothing weird has happened so I'm not too worried about it.

If the antihistamine is not working, could it be something else? Also, did she get the kennel cough vaccine?

She did have the kennel cough vaccine, but after I posted this I read up more on the vaccine and it sounds like it is not close to a foolproof method of prevention, but will make the case more mild if your dog contracts the infection.

If the snorting has been getting worse and meds are not helping, I'd take her back to the vet. Consider trying a different vet? For my money, if they can't diagnose and treat a cough, you need a new doc.

Yea I called the vet and am waiting for a call back to talk to the doc. I think the vet was trying to rule out allergies before putting her on an antibiotic, but I know what you mean, 50 dollars later and my dog is still snorting....

Hiya Jen, what you describe sounds like "reverse sneezing". Puppies and some breeds are prone to it. Our corgi Maggie had it for a couple months when she was about 6 months old. It has since gone away. Google "reverse sneezing" & see if it fits. good luck.
