If you're worried about taking them to a shelter and having them stuck in a kennel maybe try to find a rescue organization that has an active foster program. I foster cats for an animal welfare group and we keep kittens until they can be spayed/netuered (deworming and getting shots for them while they're in foster care) then we adopt out through the adoption centers in petsmarts so they have relatively little kennel-time and we're sure they're getting neutered and dewormed. So maybe check your local petsmart and see what rescue group is affiliated with them and if they have a foster program. Kittens don't tend to be stuck in shelters and adoption programs too long so I'm sure they'll be finding a forever home soon :) good luck!

Thanks! This is just such a bad time for kittens because, well, there are so many of them! Especially in my area. I did get the contact info of both the shelter and rescue that are affiliated with our local Petsmart and I'm planning to contact them tomorrow and see what we can work out. I might be able to keep them a little longer. They just need to be wormed and then I can start thinking about letting them in the rest of the house. I just don't think I could keep them in the bathroom too long.

On another note: They use their litter box yay! It stinks so bad in the bathroom though even though I clean the litter out like 3 or 4 times a day. Is it me, or does cat poop get smellier the longer it sits? Dog poop seems the opposite.

Yeah, there's tons of kittens right now! I have 8 foster kittens in my house right now. 7 I've had for a loooong time because they had some kind of skin fungus (we knew it wasn't ringworm but we're not sure what it was) that has cleared up but we're waiting for the bald spots to grow back and the other one just had her leg amputated. I keep them in what used to be our "craft room." It used to have the sewing machine and craft stuff from when we were kids and had school projects but it has an easy-to-clean linoleum floor so its perfect for cats. So don't feel bad about keeping them in the bathroom as long as you visit them and give them social time. And yes, cat poop STINKS! And it gets stinkier and stinkier! Try having 13 cats in your house ;) (I have 5 of my own in addition to the fosters) and it definitely stinks more the longer it sits and even after you scoop it, it seems like it takes a long time for the stink to go away. Once our kitties are dewormed we gate off the room outside the kitten room with a baby gate and let them out to play with the dogs and they love it

Wow! I don't know how you manage that many! My husband is getting overwhelmed just with these two, and he can't wait to get rid of them (he's not a cat person..) I try to go in the bathroom with them for a few minutes every couple of hours or so. They seem to be getting more healthy and active and sometimes when I open the door they will run out and try to explore the rest of the house. So I always put Vivi in another room while I check on the kittens.

About the de-worming, how long after the first dose is it ok for them to come into contact with my dog? Will it take 2 doses before it's safe? I tried looking at their poop to see if I can spot any worms, but I couldn't see anything, and their poop is pretty normal looking, so hopefully if they have worms it's not a bad infestation.
