I don't have a Corgi of my own yet, but plan to get one this summer. I've done a lot of research, read a lot of articles, as well as many discussions on various online forums and blogs, but one thing that I have hard time finding good information about is a good list of similarities and differences between the two Corgi breeds.

From what I've read, the differences I found so far are as follows:
- Cardis are slightly bigger (taller/longer) than Pems
- Cardis always have a tail while Pems maybe be born with a natural bob-tail or have it docked at a young age
- Cardis also have larger, rounder ears than Pems
- Pems come in red/white, sable, or tri colors, Cardis come in all of those, plus various brindle and merle variations
- Cardis are generally said to be more calm, while Pems are knows for their hyperness

If you have anything to add onto this list or to correct it, please do reply. I'd love to hear thoughts on personality differences especially since that's not as obvious as the different looks.

Thanks for the video, I'll look into getting that downloaded, never hurts to have more corgi videos around :D
I watched it on youtube free!
I bet you'll hear from the Cardi owners that Cardigans are the best... but being a PWC owner myself... Pembrokes rule!

One note on the docked tail... it's recently been made illegal to dock tails overseas in the UK so they will begin breeding/selecting for the naturally bobbed tail. Most pups (Pems) in the US have their tails docked at a young age.

And although I originally decided on a Pembroke for a number of reasons, one of the reasons was the size difference. Of course I ended up with a sturdy 40 pound corgi, so not so little after all :-)
Thanks Jessica, I agree that most people will say their breed is the best, that's expected of course :) There's got to be at least one person on here that owns both breeds and can give an unbiased opinion though, right? =]
I'm also hoping to see more comments like yours though, to see what prompts a person to go with one breed over the other in the end, so thanks!
Your icon is hysterical. Taylor lays like that all the time, especially on the cool hardwood floor if he gets too hot. They're like little turkey legs!
Corgi style all the way! =]
I've loved Corgis for a very long time (ever since I saw a photo of a howling Cardi in a puppy book when I was 10 or so), but all these quirky little habits of theirs make them just that much better, and the more I know about them, the more I love them :)
I'd be happy to have one of each, though I have never even met a Cardigan in real life. I had a hard enough time finding Pembroke breeders when I was looking, and couldn't find any Cardigan breeders closeby.

I wish I could remember the exact quote or find it again, but it was something along the lines of, "If Corgis ran a hotel, a Cardigan would be the polite reserved doorman, and a Pembroke would be the party-planning social director."
oh thats a great saying :)
I would like to add that Pembrokes have softer coats. It all depends on what you are looking for. Good luck!
Coat texture varies a lot - at least concerning Cardigans. There are soft coats and less soft coats. Some have longer coats than others (even though they are not fluffs).

yea Roxi actually has a pretty stiff coat (except her belly which is great cuz she luvs the belly-rubbins!) I've seen different types between both breeds.
