Spaying/Neutering?
Trevor has finally figured out he is a male dog and Abby is in heat. she has been in Heat for a week and Trevor has not cared however i found him trying to mount her while i was outside with him. He is now locked away in the bathroom crying, I feel bad. She also has a diper on for now.
However, I was woundering if it is possible to spay while they are in heat or do i have to wait until she is done? I was also woundering should i neuter Trevor now or should i wait a while? i have heard good and bad about both, I am not planning on showing him but maybe agility or obediance.
By the way...We did NOT want abby to go through her first heat. she started when she turned 7 months and she was getting spayed that month.
Also how likly is it for them bitches to get pregnant while they are still bleeding? i am 99.999999% sure he did not actually do anything but u turn ur back for 1 sec and they get into trouble.

This is about the third time you've asked about spay/neuter versus breeding. The majority of forum members have advised that you should have spayed/neutered both by 6 months since your dogs are puppy mill stock and one is not AKC. You've also read a lot about the differences between responsible breeding and backyard breeding.
A diaper will not keep Trevor from getting to Abby. You will have to keep them completely separated until she has finished her heat. Or take Trevor in on Monday and have him neutered.
It sounds like your father is wanting to breed these dogs and doesn't have any sense of responsible breeding, even though you have probably passed along information from the forums to him. I'm not mad at you Lauren. It is adults who make either informed or irresponsible decisions.

charlie i dont know if you missread this or not but this discussion was not for breeding means. i had finally talked my parents into spaying and neuteringbut then abby went into heat. And like i said trevor will either be locked in his crate or bathroom from now on. They will go out alone or have a leash on and be suprivised. And i know the diaper wont keep Trevor from doing his buisness...I just put out there that she was wereing a diaper for no reason.
I know 7 months is way to young to breed dogs i have read and done resaerch. we have had all my other 5 dodgs spayed and neutered before any of this happened and hoped to do the same here but the vet did not seem rushed so my parents werent rushed to any conclusions. but thanx for the advice and hope for the best
first heat cycle is hard!

No, I didn't misread it. I was remembering your previous post from a few weeks ago when you said you and your dad were still considering whether or not to breed them. With all the good advice offered on that thread - from the people who breed Corgis and from others - I was surprised to see that you still had not had them altered. I'm surprised also that your vet "didn't seem rushed". Sorry if it sounds like I snapped at you...it was just a surprise reaction.
Anyway, I will hope for the best! You may have Trevor barking and howling to get to Abby the next few weeks, so that won't be easy. I would still take Trevor in this week for his appointment, and schedule Abby's.

surprisingly Trevor still doesnt really care he will cry in the bathroom but not for Abby, for me. if i let him out with Abby in the room he jumps on my and follows me around. so i let them in the same room with eachother while i am in because they are not interested in each other, actually i think abby is more interested in him because she follows him arround kissing him and he just ignores her. Well we are not going to breed the dogs but i my dad still does not understand why it would be irresponsible to if we were to breed them. i told him it would be like breeding purebred mutts. (if that makes any sense). with us not able to trace abbys line and us not showing them the pups would be un traceable un registerable pups. but what ever. as for the vet she said abby could wait until she is 9 months while Trevor could wait until he was 4 if we wanted. i however wanted Abby done at 6 months and trevor done at 9 months. but as i said before no one is rushed and i am not old enough to make the decision myself.

I would not recommend spaying her while in heat. The reason it is risky is because of the amount of blood loss that can occur & it is not worth the risk. Most vets will not spay a female in heat. I would also highly suggest you have your male taken care of right away as it is minimally invasive for him to be altered than her. And then as soon as she goes out of heat make the appt. There are way too many unwanted dogs out there to bring more into the world - this is how I feel about it.
