Hi All,

I know this is more of a cat issue than a corgi issue, but it affects my nubs directly- I have a cat who can't keep it in the litter box.

She goes into the litter box, and then hangs her rear end OVER THE EDGE to poo. She doesn't do this when she pees, I assume because the mechanics of her stance are different.  I've watched her, and I know she's not freaked out about the litter box, because she goes right in there!

Ok, I know this is more of a cat problem, but what she ends up doing is leaving disgusting "dog treats" for my corgis who don't even have to forage in the box.  YUCK!

I know from reading other posts that we are not the only cat + corgi household on the site.  Anyone else have this issue and have a solution?

Thanks!

I have a room for the cat box that is off limits to the dogs...
The enclosed litterboxes work great for my 5 kitties....plus it makes it harder for the corgis to look for 'tootsie rolls'.

thanks everybody- I wish we had a basement or similar to "quarantine" the box, but we don't. It's in the laundary room.  We only leave the door open wide enough for the cats, but of course the naughty nubs worm their way in there!

I'll look for that "top access" litter box.  It's worth a try- though I'm skeptical if our "princess" will go for it...

thanks again!

If it's a hollow door you could just put a small doggy door on it and keep the door shut.

thanks Jane, but it's awkward, it's a folding partition door. Not suited to the cat door.

We have two cats and we ended up getting the Booda litter box there is a stairway into the dome where the litter area is.  The pups are too big to fit inside the stairwell now, so it works out.

Oooooooooh. That looks promising!  Is it hard to clean out?  Not too pricey either......

The booda is the round one I have as well, it does work somewhat but once Henry figured out he could just wedge himself in there and pop the top off it wasn't quite as effective lol.

Are their any corgis who don't eat poop if given the opportunity?  Just wondering.
based on the discussions on the site (and the lengths we go to in order to stop them.....see below!) I don't think so.  Little stinkers.
I didn't think Frosty was a poop eater, then hubby told me he has been eating the outside cat's poop.  Gross lol
We have this SAME issue in our household. We've built what we call "The Arc" of a litter box. Custom built from extra large and long tote boxes. Yes you did read that right - tote boxes. Even still, our cats decide to randomly poop outside of the box (with which we have even made a little "house" for this said litter box to be in so it doesn't go on the floor). It's a behavioral thing on the cat's part for whatever reason. We've given up and have tried everything from every angle. As far as the corgi goes, we baby/doggie gate off that room so that he can't get into the boxes. If you're able to do the same that's the best suggestion I can give ya. Best of luck! =)
