Does anyone have any advice for me (and more importantly for Frank!) about his tummy ache. I think he might have gotten into the trash and eaten a veal bone (not mine, my parents). Now I'm not worried about it having torn up anything as I've cleaned up enough throw up and poo to last a lifetime over the last 24 hours to know that there's nothing left in the little guy, and there was also definite lack of blood or anything that would be a give away to hurry to the vet. He's also not sulking too much and actually wants to play (resilient little bugger), but I've had to put him in his crate a little more than I would like just because he is still a little..uh...leaky. Does anyone have any advice for maybe helping Frank's weak constitution? I've heard something about rice and a scrambled egg? Has anyone tried that or any other tips? Thanks a ton!

I've read a lot of posts suggesting rice and boiled chicken (no seasonings - nothing) for tummy aches. =) Haven't heard of the scrambled egg thing - wonder what everyone else thinks? I hope Frank feels better (or probably that his poo looks better!!!) soon. =P What a cute name for a dog. heheheee
Sid had a tummy ache a month or two ago. Our vet recommended plain boiled chicken (don't use canned or store-roasted chicken because of the salt and spices), steamed rice and cottage cheese. It worked like a charm, and we will every now and then serve him some of this because he actually seemed to like it. We bought the bulk-pack individually frozen chicken thighs and would cook up a few at a time, and a big pot of rice. It was convenient and not too expensive. Good luck, and I hope the little guy feels better soon!
If Frank has had diarrhea and vomiting for over 24 hours, and you suspect he may have eaten a veal bone or some other trash item, it is time to call the vet. Those are symptoms (along with possible loss of appetite) of a partial blockage. A complete blockage would cause violent vomiting, cramping and possible bloat.

If he seems to be improving, then try a bland diet of boiled skinless chicken and rice for two or three days.
Frank's only been really feeling sick for about 9 hours, but because of the amount of diarrhea and vomit I decided to put a call into the vet and I'm waiting to hear back from them. The partially good news is he isn't acting lethargic at all and he's also not experiencing any loss of appetite. I'll eep everyone posted. Thanks for the advice gang!
I hope Frank's condition is only temporary and either he can throw up the item or pass it safely. I suggest you read Nicole's posts (my son's fiance) about a partial blockage their corgi Ein had in November and December. Just search for Nicole in the member area and you can read quite a few posts she put up as the problem progressed along, I think there is another Nicole registered on the site, but pic of Ein is the black face tri-color. His problems went on for awhile with several vet visits and overnite stays under observation before he finally passed the thing safely. There was a question whether he had indeed swallowed an item or had a blockage because it did not show up in xrays, and he would show the same symptoms you described for around 12 hours, then be OK for another couple of weeks or so then another cycle would begin. There were some suggestions from the vet to do exploratory surgery, but thankfully he passed the item before they had to do that. I hope the problem with your pup fares as well. Greg Z
Yes, steamed white rice works excellent. Also, some plain yogurt. It will help balance out the good bacteria that your little Frank has lost by diarrhea and throwing up.
I just talked to the vet, and because his attitude is still spectacular (read that: HYPER) and he's holding all food and water down, that I just need to keep an eye on him and his BM's for a day to make sure everything is good. If anything starts to get worse or out of hand I can take him in and we'll do an exam. I totally appreciate everyone's advice! The vet seems to think that his body is just having trouble breaking down the bone, but it doesn't really sound like an obstruction, which was good news. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted.

Thanks gang!

Oh PS: The doc did say that although switching to the bland diet, that fasting for a day while it may make him testy, should actually help clean up the diarrhea. Water is okay, but just for firmings up sake, no food. Just thought I'd pass on the info!
Good news that Frank is holding food and water down and being active. Hopefully everything is all good. Fasting an adult dog for one day is often recommended for tummy upsets. I wasn't sure about Frank's age. When Charlie had a few bouts of diarrhea a while back my vet thought he was too young to fast, so we did the chicken/rice bland diet.

Anyway, hopefully we'll be hearing more good news about Frank feeling better! : - )
