You are so right about humans whining more when ill than our pets do. I noticed a book sitting on a client's coffee table I keep meaning to borrow. It is "Tell Me Where It Hurts" with a cute photo of a dog on the cover. Written by a vet to let us know what to look for in our pets. This particular client recently lost her Mini Australian Shepherd female to a GI disorder that hit quickly and even after a strong fight, she succumbed to her condition. A real heartbreaker because it was so unexpected and happened so fast. If only we could get one of those hand-sized wands that they use in Star Trek which we could wave over our pets once in awhile and make sure they are okay.....
Rosanne, I am glad to hear that Deuce is feeling better now. I always worry more when one of the dogs is sick than I do when my husband and I are sick. I guess that is because the dogs cannot tell you what is wrong and when they are feeling better. Good thing I have a very sympathetic & patient vet. Otherwise, I would drive her crazy!
I am looking forward to meeting you soon.
Lisa
I never thanked you for the welcome, Lisa! Deuce has been sick -- limping and diarrhea :( -- these days and we are all busy and worried. Now finally he is better and I hope he'll gain his spirit back and be ready for the picnic in less than two weeks! Looking forward to see you guys there!
I am a pet sitter in Champaign. As a result of moving about to see clients, I often see Corgis walking around with their human companions. I would say I have seen at least three in my immediate neighborhood. Haven't had the pleasure of working with a Corgi yet, but have a lot of experience with BC's (Border Collies) and Cattle Dogs. Most of my clients' dogs are mixed breeds which have been adopted from various rescue organizations. I am really looking forward to meeting the new family Corgi girl.
Will definitely keep an eye out for your CORGI-CON at the dog park. Have driven by there many times, but never taken a dog there. That one time someone kidnapped a young pit bull from that park scared me a lot. It was an isolated incident, I know, but for some reason the thought of her losing her pet like that had an impact on me in a very negative way. The little dog trusted everyone and unfortunately that person should not have been trusted.
Thanks so much for the heads-up on the CORGI-CON event.
Stephanie,
Your Corgi Grandchild will be the perfect age next year for the Corgi picnic.
I noticed that you are from Champaign. I am also from Champaign. In May of this year I had an event called CORGI-CON at the Urbana dog park. We had 23 Corgis at that first CORGI-CON, so I plan to do it again in 2013. Keep an eye on the events page in the spring. I would LOVE to see the new Corgi at that. CONGRATS on the puppy!
Lisa
Maybe my son will be able to make it next year and I, Corgi Grandma, will tag along. He picks up his eight-week-old Corgi on the 13th, so she will be a little too young to take to an event such as this. She has a five-hour drive back to her new home on the 13th, too. Hope you all have a wonderful time.
Super, Rosanne! Welcome to MyCorgi! I see you just joined. Looking forward to meeting you at the Corgi picnic.
Lisa
We are 2 hours away (chicago). We can be there!
Bradley and Jenny,
Work obviously comes first. Let's just hope that is one of the weekends that you are free. Good luck with the new job!
We now only might make it this year. I just got a job that requires some weekends, so whether or not we make it is up in the air.
