My 10 month old pup Bear has had loose stool for the past 3 nights now. Due to him not gaining a whole lot of weight I decided to switch him from Purina Chow to TOTW. I gradually added TOTW to his food bowl and he has been transitioning well but the past couple nights he's had accidents in the house and they've been very loose. Trying to decide if I can add something like rice to his dish to firm up his stool or if the TOTW is too rich for him. (TOTW is grain free too). My vet suggested to not feed him today to let his digestive tract have a rest and then feed rice or pasta the next couple days and start him back on TOTW either sunday or Monday and if he is still having problems to switch his food. Any thoughts would help. Thanks.

I don't use either of those foods so I can't comment on them. You can add some boiled hamburger or chicken to the rice and see if that helps.
I'd try the boiled chicken and rice for a bit, and if he still doesn't transition well onto that food I'd try switching to one that isn't grain free. My pem absolutely cannot handle grain free foods, they are just too rich for him and he gets the runs every time.
Thanks everyone for the advice. Katy he's been on TOTW for a week now and he just got a half a cup last night without the Purina in it. He didn't have any accidents last night so I'm thinking I was feeding too much the first couple days. I'm not feeding any proteins but I'll definitely look into it. Do you have any recommendations for a good protein? I'd need something for my German Shepherd and Chihuahua as well.
They are talking about the protein in the dog food, not an additional protein.
Katy there's 25% crude protein in Taste Of The Wild dog kibble. My corgi has stopped having loose stool and is getting 1/2 a cup twice a day now. He's going for a check up next week to see what his weight is.
Sorry Katy the kind of kibble Bear and Roxy the German Shepherd are getting is the Pacific Stream Smoked Salmon.
