What was your total cost for spaying your corgi?

I have a private vet who is charging ~$280 total (includes pain meds, bloodwork, everything) to spay my 8-month old corgi. Sticker shock!

How much did it cost to get your corgi spayed? Was the cost just the spaying cost? Were there other costs associated? What was the total cost that you ended up paying?

How do you feel about getting a pet spayed at a university veterinary clinic?

It's been about 15 years since I had a pet spayed...and then the cost was ~$80.

Thanks in advance!!

Total cost for Rolo's neutering was $360... and included bloodwork, IV drip, pain meds to take home, anesthesia -- and the Home Again microchip was done at the same time. We could have had it done with a human society certificate for only $100, but it was for lower income families with proof of family income... and we made just over the amount. (go figure!) Also, the vet did the certificate dogs overnight... and since we paid full price, Rolo had the preferred morning time slot and was able to come home in the afternoon.

I don't really knock the price... the folks at Magnolia Animal Hospital are the best and they really love your animals as much as you do. When I go in to check on their progress and find them playing with my dogs it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling...like I made the right choice in vet care.
I have always paid a lot to get my pets spayed or neutered. A good vet typically does charge slighly more but i also find that they are vets who typically have been in practice longer.
We paid $180 to get our last cat done, by sister paid $400 to have her maltese done and harry our corgi will most likely run us $300 by the time all is said and done.
Bottom line is that you have to trust the people you are ensuing the care of your animals to. If you trust the University by all means go there...these days it is expensive! Good Luck!
Our 7 month old Lilly is recovering from her 'female' operation. Yes, it is sticker shock! Our fee did include 2 nights in the clinic. We opted for the laser surgery - so total cost was $ 230.00.
we just had kai spayed by our vet and he charged $103 including meds - the same amount he charged for neutering keahi. he's pretty old school - doesn't offer laser, just needle and thread. but keahi recovered just fine and we're hoping kai does the same. from what i've heard, he's supposed to be one of the more affordable vets in the LA area, which makes sense because the neighborhood his clinic is located isnt the greatest. but hes good at what he does and his clerical staff is really nice too.
My vet quoted me over $400 for a spay (and a neuter) so I took my dogs to the Neuter Scooter.

$75 for a spay or a neuter. Includes surgery, anesthesia and if you want take-home pain meds it is only $10 extra.

I didn't have any issues when Basil got neutered, Bernie chewed some of her stitches out so I had to get her stapled shut and wearing a cone 24/7. But it was still way cheaper than $400. Some vets like to have the dog stay overnight, do bloodwork to test anesthesia, the whole nine.
Theo's neutering was between $350 and $400. I don't remember exactly. But that included blood work, anesthesia, extra paid meds while he spent the day at the vet, boarding him for the day, using a laser technique that is a bit safer and easier, a microchip, and pain meds after we brought him home. We probably went a bit overboard but we wanted to make sure he was comfortable, and he was! The whole thing was stress and drama free for everyone, so it was totally worth the money. :D
wow, I was always under the impression that spaying cost a whole lot more than neutering (seems so much easier?).. sheesh guess I was wrong!
I payed a total of $215 to get my little one neutered. That included blood work and micro chipping.
$100 for my one year puppy ... it was a clinic! you can try YELP.com (if there is a good concentration of people using it in ur area) to find vets nearby and see prices?

check your nearest human society or pet shelters! they WANT to neuther/spray ur dog, and will do it for a good price!!

laser vs conventional is really up to you. either way the dog will heal just fine naturally.
I felt the same way two years ago when I needed my dog done, and we were adding another corgi to our home. Unwilling to spend over $400 for the both of them (20 -23 lbs.) I waited for my SPCA and did the procedure through them. The wait is longer but I think the cost was about $65. You could look for local spay/neuter clinics in your area as well. It can be a little traumatic we had to drop our pups off at a mobile van then pick them up later in the day, but they did a fantastic job and it relieved a lot of stress from having such a smaller bill.
I got a $70 voucher through LA Animal Services to spay my 7 month old girl, so everything including microchipping, pain medication and antibiotics was $88.
that's awesome....we paid $ 235.00 at Mallard Creek Animal Hospital in Charlotte,NC. I must say that the staff is great there!
