My corgi, Star, is a 2 1/2 year old purebred Pem. She's generally quite active and my husband takes her out for walks twice a day.
In the last week or so, she's decided that she doesn't want to go on walks anymore. She loves car rides and the dog park, but when it comes time to go for a walk, she runs to me and tries to hide behind me, or leans on me and tries to look invisible! It's very, very cute, but a pain for my husband who has to try to get her out walking, and apparently he ends up carrying/dragging her out, and as soon as she's pooed she runs back home as fast as she can (if she's off the leash).
She used to love walks so much she'd frap and bark when I said "Where's your collar?", and now she just hides!
Anyone know what might be going on? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Chris

is it hotter than usual? are you walking on cement (maybe her pays are slightly cracked?)
Is there a new aggressive dog in the area or something else that is new on your walk route that could be spooking her? My Charlie can be very quirky. He tries to herd flies outside but if one gets in the house he hides under the bed. I find he can be very noise sensitive and once something scares him he wimps out from then on.

Maybe it's just too darn hot and burning her foot pads! If she still likes the grass that would be my guess. Hopefully it will be a passing corgi-quirk and beautiful Star will want to go walking again soon. Good luck.
I know it's hard but try to think back. At the time this started, did anything change? A new dog in the neighborhood? Could Star have gotten a foot scuffed on something outside? Just run through it all and see if there might be something that changed. Big point: don't drag her. Encourage her. Use a favorite toy or treat. But don't force her. Hopefully, you'll see what spooked her and can get her over the hump with some love and patience...and often food! :-)
