Puppy Pads?

Has anyone used those puppy pads when house-training? I'm just nervous the dog may get used to the pads and not learn to go outside...or am I crazy? Any feedback would be appreciated!

Edit: Thanks so much for the feedback! I think I may just use the old school newspapers, that way he won't get the pads mixed up with carpet since my apartment is covered with it! I just hope I can get him trained real soon--I personally take walks/jogs often, so hopefully this won't be a real issue.

They are awesome. It has been a life saver (because when they're housebroken, you'll still get little "hairballs" on the carpet too).

We never used them with Kara and she did great. I have never used them with any of my dogs so I can't give you any of the pro's. I, too, was afraid that would encourange urinating inside and getting used to looking for the pad to pee instead of the grass. I used the crate and a careful watchful eye. With frequent outings I think you will do just fine.

we didn't use them- we crate Owen. People gave them to us and I left one out for Owen when I had a long day at work and couldn't come home... he just didn't use it and I felt so bad for him holding it so long. to keep him from shredding it completely I taped it to the floor with painter's tape : ) When he gets too clever for that I will use gaffer's tape. So really only if for some reason I can't come home for lunch until I can put in him in doggy day care

urgh don't do it! we only had neeka on them for maybe three weeks when we were in our apartment waiting for our flooring to be done so we could me. she peed on everything soft since until she was 8 months old...our blankets...towels...clothes...everything. even the mattress twice! i wont use them again.

we used them for cody, then stopped after a few weeks. he would pee on them and it was nice, but he tears them up and pieces of puppy pads were everywhere. we jus made sure to take him out as much as possible and today hes almost 14 months old and he is house trained. he knows to go out in the morning and to hold it when we go to work. if he has to go really bad he barks at us telling us he needs to go out. but still there are those accidents sometimes. :/

I still use them for Duncan, and he is 4 years old. He lets us know when he has to go out, and he never tore them up. They are handy because my husband sleeps during the day and I work. He doesn't use them a lot, be it's nice to know that they are there just in case. It has come in handy when he has had a bout of diarreha and can't make it outside or let us know in time. He runs to the pad and uses it.

I know some people don't like the idea of piddle pads around, but like I say; it works for some of us, especially working long hours. Use your own judgement, it's your dog and your home. I have a little carpet cleaner I use once a week around his area, just in case there is a little runoff from where he has been close to the edge.

Puppy pads worked great for me and Theo. It didn't affect his house training, he never confused the pads with our carpet. He didn't start trying to tear them up until he basically wasn't using them anymore because he could hold his bladder until I took him out.
