Hey guys,
My puppy (11 weeks) is on Orijen, but out of concern for the high levels of protein, I thought it required some investigation. Initially, I was just thinking of mixing her food with some other kibble. But, I went to a local pet store today, where employee (may have been the owner) is an actual pet nutritionist and we discussed switching her to Amicus. I grabbed a trial size, and she seems to love it. I was just curious if anyone else uses this brand, or has had experience with it!

On the topic of high protein for puppies, I emailed Orijen asking about this exact subject. Basically, the Customer Care Representative told me that it was an excess of calcium and phosphorus (created by using high-ash fowl/fish meal) that creates the problems usually attributed to high protein diets. Orijen specifically lists low-ash chicken in its ingredient list in order to prevent their calcium:phosphorus ratios from climbing up.
I hope this was slightly helpful insight. I am currently feeding a half/half diet of raw and Acana kibble (also made by Champion Pet Foods), since I do not have the facilities for feeding 100% raw. The results have been really great, and Ace is taking his sweet old time to grow.
