Hey guys,

My puppy (11 weeks) is on Orijen, but out of concern for the high levels of protein, I thought it required some investigation. Initially, I was just thinking of mixing her food with some other kibble. But, I went to a local pet store today, where employee (may have been the owner) is an actual pet nutritionist and we discussed switching her to Amicus. I grabbed a trial size, and she seems to love it.  I was just curious if anyone else uses this brand, or has had experience with it!

TOTW= Taste of the Wild... you may have a local seller but I typically buy mine online. Just go to google and search it and you'll find numerous sites that sell dog food!

On the topic of high protein for puppies, I emailed Orijen asking about this exact subject. Basically, the Customer Care Representative told me that it was an excess of calcium and phosphorus (created by using high-ash fowl/fish meal) that creates the problems usually attributed to high protein diets. Orijen specifically lists low-ash chicken in its ingredient list in order to prevent their calcium:phosphorus ratios from climbing up.

I hope this was slightly helpful insight. I am currently feeding a half/half diet of raw and Acana kibble (also made by Champion Pet Foods), since I do not have the facilities for feeding 100% raw. The results have been really great, and Ace is taking his sweet old time to grow.

This is all very timely for us here.  I brought home our new baby, Logan, last week and his breeder sent us with TOTW for him.  I was worried when I read on a pet food review site that some owners (one of standard Poodles) blamed it for KILLING two of her dogs!  The puppy likes it and the other two dogs seem to think it is tasty mixed into their food.  The older two have been eating Blue Buffalo and are not too fond of it.  Maybe I switch the whole gang?  I suppose since my mixed breed, Amy is eight, I should have the vet okay it after her yearly blood work.  I am just concerned about her kidney and liver function.  We have never had any indication to worry but I've already lost one dog to Kidney disease.  Am I being paranoid?  Thanks for being such a great community!
Happy to report that I bought Emma TOTW (Pacific Stream) today and is gobbling it up as we speak. :D Thanks for all the help, everyone!
