I was looking over Ellie's AKC paperwork the other day and noticed that her litter's birth date was listed as May 3rd.  When I had asked the breeder after finding her, however, she had said she was born on April 29th.  Is there normally a discrepancy like that?  Is it because breeders wait a few day to see which pups have made it?  I just want to make sure I celebrate her birthday on the right day!  :)

As far as I  know the paperwork should have the exact date she was born.

Should have birth date.   Maybe she got confused or looked at the wrong calendar page, either when she told you or when she filed papers.
Is this breeder someone you know and trust, who's home you visited to see the pups?  if so, she probably made a mistake, as Beth suggests.  Check with the breeder and see what she has t say.  If, however, this is someone you do not personally know and someone who raises multiple litters at the same time, that kind of sloppy record keeping would be a red flag.
