I've been feeding Dax Wellness for a while now, and he's just not all that thrilled about it. I recently switched him to adult dog food, and he's still not really eating. He usually eats once a day (I feed him twice, he just doesn't eat), and he seems thin to me. He's healthy but when he lays down I can see his ribs poking out and it makes me cringe. He's a year old (today actually) and he weighs about 23.5 pounds, is that normal? I figured he'd be in the 25-27ish range at least by now, but he seems to have peaked. I actually think he's LOST a little weight. So I was thinking maybe he just doesn't like the food, so I might switch to Blue Buffalo, and I wanted to get some opinions on it and which one overall that you guys think is better.

We put Finnigan on Blue Buffalo Chicken for puppies when we got him at 8 weeks and he's eaten it until 7 months at which time we switched him to Wellness Super 5 Mix Chicken for adults. He liked BB but he had bad breath and was always gassy so we decided to try Wellness. He seems to like the Wellness just as much and I haven't been noticing gas so we're happy with it.

We had cosnidered putting him on Wellness Core but because it is a grain free food, it is very high in protien and not only can it be too rich for some dogs (causing tummy upset) but many breeders say that the protien level is too high and should only be feed to a working dog over the age of two years. One breeder feeds Core to her dogs but will mix it 50/50 with a lower protien kibble. Just FYI.
We feed Isabelle Blue Buffalo and she LOVES it. The dog eats better than we do! haha. It's holisitic, has the right percentages of protein and fats, vitamins, etc. We had her on the lamb option for puppies, but her stools were way too loose and wet. We just switched her to the chicken and things are much better.
I'd say give Wellness Core a shot. I started Cloud on Wellness puppy mix and he clearly liked it; when I transitioned him to Core Ocean formula he fell in love with it. Once he sees it on the ground he makes pretty quick work of it. His breath is wonderful and his coat really shines. All dogs are different though, but if you haven't switched yet I'd give Core a shot.
Blue Buffalo Chicken
Whole Ground Brown Rice, Whole Ground Barley, Oatmeal, Rye,
(3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th ingredients)

100%-25% protein-14% fat-10% moisture-8% ash =43% carbohydrate

Wellness Super5 Chicken

Oatmeal, Ground Barley, Ground Brown Rice, Rye Flour, Rice Bran, Ground Millet, (3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th 10th and 19th ingredients)

100%-22 protein-12% fat-11% moisture-8% ash=47% carbohydrate

Wellness has an additional meat source as the 11th ingredient, not likely to be a significant source. The number of sources says nothing about the percentage of meat, especially when you look at the guaranteed analysis for protein and see 22% as opposed to 25% for Blue Buffalo, also you cannot deduce the percentage of carbohydrate from the number of sources. The formula for determining carbohydrate is 100% minus the percentage of protein minus the percentage of fat minus the moisture minus the ash equals percentage of carbohydrate
I switched Quincy to Blue Buffalo when he was 3 months old because the food he was eating was not agreeing with him. I did a lot of research online went with the blue buffalo and have not looked back. At first he wasn't too keen on the life bits but got use to them. He is going to be 6 years old next month and in true corgi fashion continues to clean his plate every meal. I always get compliments on how shiny his coat is and what good shape he is in. As a puppy he was on the chicken and brown rice puppy formula, then the adult formula and in the past year I switched him to the wilderness formula because his vet wanted him on a low carb diet. Actually tonight I bought him the new wilderness salmon flavor, he seems to like it better than the chicken flavor. He also loves the Blue buffalo bars in moderation! :) Hope this helps
I have to warn you on one topic. I switched Miranda around with foods because of her skin and her picky tastes. I wish now that she had a little less love of her food. She ballooned out in size once I put her on Wellness Fish Formula. Now she is on reduced fat, but sometimes it is the food and sometimes they just eat a little less. As long as some food is eaten, it is not a bad thing if there is a little extra left behind at the end of a meal.
Yea our two are eating at least once a day.. Though we try to give them more.. it just sits in the bowl lol. I might try to get some canned wellness and mix it up and see if that helps. They're regulating their own food though which is kind of a nice change..

They loved wellness since we've given it to them.. its only been recent that they've stopped eating so much - though I think its the change in lifestyle and them trying to go on a hunger strike lol.

So I was lucky that both of mine LOVE their wellness... I mix puppy and core ocean or core lamb (puppy b/c of the DHA and the 2nd part being grain free, and high in protein) and soften it with a little water or chicken broth occasionally and they thrive on it... they even eat it right next to each other in a double diner and are so into the food that they dont' squabble at all. I also add in solid gold seameal (approx. 1/8 teaspoon each).. Once a week they get wet grain free food as a treat.. they have the same parents -- petite mom (18-20lbs) and a avg dad (25-27lbs) but Ollie is very thin by nature. He's 15 months and 21.5lbs.. when a friend commented on his being so thin, I increased his food but he didn't gain an ounce. Ollie and Prie are both happy and healthy, very active/sociable, and have great poops/soft shiny and bright coats/fast growing nails/very white teeth/good doggy breath so my vet told me I shouldn't 'fixate on nothing' and that he thought they looked a-ok. You should check in with your vet if you are very concerned before you worry yourself too much!!

If you are concerned about your pup still, it might be worth keeping some nutrical puppy around for an added calorie boost -- I keep in in their overnight bag if I'm going out of town and I know they will be playing hard all day with other dogs. Also, contact the food companies directly and ask to be sent samples or couples for their small size package -- they almost all do this and this way you can try out a few foods without dropping a ton of cash. Good luck!!

Dax's weight is fine, he'll fill up when he's 2. it's okay to be underweight. Blue Buffalo may be too rich for some corgis.

You said this same thing almost 2 years ago, haha.

LMAO... :)
I feed Blue Buffalo and Tucker likes the lamb & brown rice recipe. He always gets comments on his coat. He gets 2 meals of 1/2 cup. He weighs a healthy and trim 30 pounds.
