When our girl was a pup she got her paw caught in a door when she tried to excape and broke a toe, then a year to the day she was running through the bush at the dog park and broke a toe again same paw different toe. our girl had a full splint on for 2 weeks (it was a weight baring toe) on top of that an additional 10 days on light exercise. what i did was got a couple treat dispensing toys ( bought 3 diffrent ones) each day she would get a different one, to mix it up. i would also put at least one treat that could not come out just to make it really challenging, and keep her going longer.she would get all her food though the toy other wise she would be fat. We also worked on alot of new tricks to get her mind tired, of course ones that wouldn't effect her paw. like the treat on the nose trick. "where's you tail(nub)?", when we where out i would hide treats at ground level in her pen area( in toys, under toys ect...) We also made her cuddle a lot which once she caught on how cuddling is nice, it kept her from trying to run around. oh and we taught her and kept her busy with "which hand" is the treat(small ball) in. and taught her the names of her toys. Hold on in each hand (told her take "carrot" and she would go to "take" her toy but we would only let go if she grabbed the right one we named. Keeping the noise, and ears/ brain engaged as much as possible will help get rid of physical energy.
Wishing Franklin fast healing
