Caution: Break away collars with metal clasps!

Because we live in the country my dogs wear their collars 24/7. Bella has had this collar on for at least 6 months. Little did I know when I bought the metal one and thought it would be stronger yet a break away that she would become allergic to it or that the metal would wear off and this would happen! Just wanted people to be aware of what could happen.

We have one of those double harnesses which tends to chafe a sore on the breastbone. I didn't realize what was happening at first; this was on our first two hikes and I thought a corgi just got too tired to continue after 9 miles.

I reckon you gotta check gear periodically; things wear out.

Ouch, hope Bella feels better soon. Ella wears her collar 24/7 also, because well she doesn't like having it off. The very first thing we bought her was a collar (several collars ago), so if she has it off she will go look for it and lay on it. We buy her the ones with the plastic clip, and I take it off about once a week to give her neck a break. I also hand wash the collar in her doggy soap while she gets her monthly bath, and leave it off until they are both dry.
Thanks for the warning, as I had thought to change Ella's collar type.
