Hi everyone,

Well Potus had developed a new habit- chewing his bed. They're like large floor pillows and he's had one as his bed ever since we brought him home when he was 12 weeks old (he's 10 months now). He's been fine with them but over the last week he's decided that chewing them open and ripping out the stuffing is the most fun ever. We've tried distracting him from doing it by giving him something he can chew on, but we can't stop him from doing it when we're not here. We've tried taking it away from him but its winter and he lives mainly in the kitchen with its lino floor. He looks so sad sitting on the ground with no bed so we have to leave it in with him.

Any advice on how to get him to stop destroying his bed?

My personal favorite for Bertie Wooster (who also is a total destroyer of toys, but somehow knows what's his and what's not, and has never destroyed anything in the house...amazing) was the day I bought him an "indestructible" toy made out of that hose stuff. Gave it to him to hold while I paid, and before we had made it to the shop's door, he had a hole in it and was leaving a little trail of stuffing behind. Sigh. But he loved it. (They gave me a new one, btw, laughing hysterically all the while.)
As he gets older he should out grow the chewing of his beds. We couldnt use much of anything when lance was a pup because he would chew it and then sometimes eat it like towels. He has had many beds over the last 3 1/2 years, because I just cant seem to stop buying him beds, although I think I finally realized he doesnt need anymore! He will ocassionally try and chew on his beds when he is trying to get our attention, like dont ignore me, play with me, lol. I quickly tell him NO!!

After buying so many beds over the years, I have found out that bed pillows with blankets on them can work just as well!!!

As of right now we have two beds in the family room, because 1 bed is just not enough for 1 room. LOL In the basement we have two oversized beds that I just didnt like the size of anymore, because 1 of those beds wasnt enough, lol. Then I get tired of them!!! I really have found the perfect beds for him now though. :)
Maybe you can try spraying apple bitter on the dog bed and letting it dry before you let him lay on it. While hes little try having him lay on it while you can supervise him and if you see him going to chew tell him, no!
Get him some towels or throw blankets from Goodwill. Maybe he won't chew on it if there's no stuffing or at least you won't feel bad for spending money cause it's dirt cheap.
He chews towels too... he pretty much chews everything, lol :p
Luckily we don't spend much on the towels he destroys (he's just finished ripping one to shreds actually) because they're either our old ones or from this factory outlet which sells them really cheaply. Thanks for the advice though- and I love your profile picture!
