Who has heard about keeping your corgi puppies from jumping in out of and off or up things till they are 1?

Yes, it's not supposed to be good for their young, growing, dwarf joints. Landing on those shoulders is hard on them. Sometimes they just take a flying leap and are gone before you can get them but do try to carry them up and down long flights of stairs, on and off furniture, and whenever you can grab them.

Yep, what Karen said.

My personal opinion is stairs are ok if they are not playing on them/ leaping off them.  Carrying a 30 pound dog up and down steps is dangerous and the risk of the two of you tumbling has to be seriously weighed against the minor risk of injury if stairs are taken at a reasonable speed.   Plus dogs who don't learn stairs as pups can have trouble with them when they are older.

The biggest risk is growth plate fractures, from what I've heard.  Probably best to try to keep them from jumping down, especially, but it can be hard to convince them not to get on and off a sofa.  A mattress and box spring is too high for Corgis of any age, IMO.

Yes I have learned that for the first year carrying them is the best and my moms dog is good proof she is 10 and has a great back but yes she has had a few mishaps of jumping before my mom got there.. Thanks all for the info

Yup. We keep Ein from jumping up on things, over things, ect. It's not good for their back and hips.

We carry Nemo up and down stairs and across big gaps. But he would have to live in a bubble to not jump and even then I think he would figure out how to do it. The first two weeks we had him he would take flying leaps off just about anything (made me glad for the harness he was wearing). He is finally starting to get some "edge" perception.
