Hello fellow corgi-fans,

I have often read about Corgis tend to have bad backs because of their short legs and long body.  And yet of all the people I met who currently have or used to have corgis, not one ever described their corgis with bad backs.  So is this true or just folk lore?

If it is true, what can I do to reduce the likelihood of this happen to my corgis?

thanks,

Essa

So is his weight down now? Finn doesn't look as slim as other Cardis and we've been cutting back his food but I don't see any change. It's hard to tell with him whether or not he's overweight because he has such a wide rib cage and a lot of extra skin. He just recently started jumping off the couch (since he just figured out how to get on the couch) and I yell at him every time. I think that's a bad habit to get into and it's just asking for trouble.
He dropped about 11 lbs when we switched him to a no-grain diet. He hasn't been weighed since the surgery, but he looks small. And yes, the couch thing is a terrible habit for them to get into but it's so hard to watch them every second, the little demons :)
My goodness. Poor Aber. Hope he can get to full recovery soon.
Thanks so much. He's adapted quite well to not walking and there's no pain, but I do so much want to see him bouncing around again on his legs, not just his butt.
Linus as bad arthritis for a 3yr old corgi. (because he has had 2 acl surgerys.) I feed him Lubrisyn joint supplement and have seen him perk up so much. (Even with the Rymidal he was reluctant to play).

I also give him adequan injections. It is an IM injection for horses and now for dogs. If you can give the shot yourself its not expensive. I buy bulk for my horses (the same concentration for the dog) its cheaper with a horse on the picture rather than a dog.

Because corgis aren't too big, they don't need much. I calculated it out and it is 10.00 a month! It is great as a preventative and I have seen it work great in my horses and is recommended by many vets (you do need a script for it).
where do you get the Lubrisyn joint supplement?
lubrisyn.com :) Easy! the CA version is the canine version. I get the 16 oz and its lasted for months so the price isn't too bad.
