We adopted a 13 wk old Pembroke/Cardigan mix yesterday and are currently using a hand-me-down carrier. She's going to outgrow it pretty fast we imagine (it's 22" long) and are looking into purchasing one that she can use as she grows. What brands do you recommend? There's an inexpensive crate on Amazon called "Crate Appeal" has anyone used this brand or heard anything about it? We're also debating whether to get an airline style crate or a metal one. Both of our families are 3-4 hrs by plane from us, so I'm sure at some point she will be traveling with us. Please let me know your suggestions! Thanks

They don't recommend you feed in the crate, that should be seperate from their crate. Have feed and water bowl together outside of the crate.  The puppy will be more willing to eat if its outside of the crate.

Feeding her in her crate is fine...if you want her to stay in there and eat I would just shut the door for ~15 minutes, give her the chance to eat, and if she doesn't pick up her bowl and try again later.

We use VariKennel hard plastic crates for our Pems.  If yours is a cardi mix, might be bigger than a Pem

Gwynnie (smaller) is fine in her Medium 27 x 20.

Al (bigger) is fine in his Intermediate 32 x 22.

I do not know how much Al weighs, but I'd guess at least 25 lbs.

I'd think a corgi would have to be awfully big to need a 36" VariKennel, but ask around -- there ought to be threads on this site, search for it?   Al's crate is large enough to be a bit awkward for travel. You don't want it too big.

BTW, our crates almost always have the doors open.

I think a crate is supposed to be big enough for the dog to lie full-length?  But I don't know.
