Jenny and I were out shopping today in the 1-90 corridor of N.IL and stopped off at a holostic dogfood store to check it out.  When the proprietor asked, we told him we feed Blue Buffalo to Leena, to which he said "You can do MUCH better." before proceeding to try to sell his ideas (as well as a bottl;e of probiotics) to us.  Very condescending with the tone he used.  We took his crappy free samples of California Natural and got the heck out.  Lost any possible business from us (we were going to buy some bones befoe he began pushing the probiotics).  I appreciate his love of fresh dogfood and his misguided hatred of kibble, but we're not the kind who will be easily awayed or who like to be converted.

For whose who reccommended Blue Buffalo in the past, it seems to be working well.  I think the strong smell really draws her in.  She loves it, and no side effects from switching food.

Just a warning, some people are so hooked and won over by their own preference in food that they act like all other is crap in comparison.  Use what works for you!

I agree; people are a little nutty about food.

We personally feed the Food That Dare Not Speak Its Name:   Iam's.    :-)

That makes us awful "parents" to our furkids according to quite a few true believers in (insert food belief here).

Whatever works for you and your dogs is what you should go with.  If the dog is healthy and happy, who's to point fingers?
P.S.   We were feeding quite a lot of Blue Buffalo canned food to our kitty, but the price keeps going up and up and up.  I have a hard time justifying 60 cents per meal for my cat when we feed ourselves on only a couple bucks a meal, and the food pantry for out-of-work people is sitting with bare shelves, but that's just my personal preference and I understand other people's choices.  We do buy it when it's on sale and she likes it quite a lot.  Ditto for Wellness.  For a more reasonably priced option, we like Authority (Pet Smart brand) and Soulistic (PetCo brand), and we stock up on the others when they are cheap.  Cats seem to tolerate food switching from meal-to-meal much better than dogs do.
He also recommended probiotic supplements because kibble "rips up their digestive system."  Leena's had problems exactly once, and that was due to a parasite, not harsh kibble.
They may not be so bad but I buy mine through Puritan's Pride at  about 1/2 the cost.  It sounds to me like this guy could use a class in "how to treat costumers" He's probably lost more business due to this.
I doubt he does much business at all with the way he treats customers.  Like I said, I do appreciate new information and ideas, but he went a bit overboard.
I don't know whats happening but dealing with these pet store people is getting to be like dealing with insurance salesmen. Your policy is the worst and they have something so much better. I've been getting the same run around at the pet store lately. No matter which food I'm feeding them there's always a better, higher quality (also more expensive!)one I should be feeding them. I'm at a point where I politely thank them for the information but I tell them that this is what I use and my dogs are doing just fine on it!
I have an idea...everytime someone tries to get us to buy better we should ask for a comparison with the food we use in writing "right now please"people may know but I am guessing they don't keep that good of track...personal preferance,$$$ and what works for your dogs is what we need.
