Our corgi Taki is almost 2 years old, and I remember when he was a puppy, he would love to be snuggled and carried around. But ever since he grew to his full size, he hates, hates, HATES being carried! He will always squirm around and even try and jump out of my arms while I'm standing - which is pretty high up! I was just wondering if this was a common corgi trait (Hating to be carried around) - and maybe if it's uncomfortable for them due to their long backs/short legs, and maybe I should just stop trying to baby my corgi :(

Tucker does not like to be picked up - he backs away when he sees it coming. I haven't tried carrying him for extended periods - I just pick him up to put him in the car or something. He would be very awkward to carry around. He does LOVE to snuggle on the couch or the bed though.
My guys will literally climb into my arms -- but ONLY when they are directing me where to take them (like down a flight of uncarpeted stairs, which Bertie won't do on his own owing to an unfortunate puppy incident, or into the back of a high car). If it's just to be picked up and held and snuggled or put on the vet's table, they back off and look at me like I have 3 heads.
Finnigan likes it but since we live in a 2nd story apartment we've been carrying him up and down the stairs from day one. Now when we go outside he'll walk to the edge of the top step and look up at me waiting to be picked up. :) He also likes to clim in my lap if I'm sitting on the floor.
is there any particular reason why you carry Finnigan up the stairs? We have stairs in our apartment also and Wally likes to run up and down them.
Sidney will jump into Becky's arms and practically demands to be carries when we are on hikes and he gets too tired. His preferred mode is to be carried looking over her shoulder, kind of like when burping a baby. He hates to be carried if he is on his back though.
When I get home I'll post a pic of the little diva (what's a male diva, anyway?) on our most recent hike ;)
I looked on an opera website just for fun -- and there is no word for a male diva! Someone suggested fatso, but they were thinking of the late great Pavarotti....and I'm sure that doesn't apply to any corgis we know!
OK, this made me crack up! Thank you :-)
you could refer to him as "his majesty"
OK, that works! Come to think of it, sometimes I call him "his Royal Highness", which is funny since he's so low to the ground!
I just call Finn brat since he sometimes acts like a spoiled brat. :)
We have a group for that! It is called Spoiled Rotten Corgis.
AWWWW hahaha
Where are you guys hiking, and how long is the hike?
