fireworks?
do corgis enjoy fireworks or do they get scared? should i bring Lyra to my mammaws farm to see fireworks tommorrow? ur comments determin if lyra goes or doesnt go. comment before 1:00 pm tommorrow.

Ana, Sam has sent a very good video. I would not take Lyra with you! Our first dog had to be tranquilized because of fireworks, it was awful, Odie didn't need drugs but couldn't handle them either. Lucky and Sonny don't like them, but at least they just bark and hide under the bed. Good Luck, I know you don't want to leave her alone either.

Torri and Ringo are terrified by even distant sounds of fireworks. Tonight is one of the very few times (night time thunderstorms are the other) that we let them come into bed with us. They flat out refuse to go outside when they hear them.

Patti and I choose not to attend fireworks and rather stay home with the dogs. Dundee especially is terrified of loud noises. It's just easier for them that we stay and help them through the booming.

I agree that the best thing you can do as a responsible dog owner would be to stay home and be with your baby! Depending on where the fireworks are she could have a terrible time! I have a rescue that is scared to death of thunderstorms and noises as such and if they aren't properly introduced to noises this could be with her for the rest of her life. It could be anyway. Could you take her to the earlier party and then come home with her an hour or so before the fireworks start? I hope you can find a solution that works for both of you. She could also bolt from being scared, please be careful.

A few weeks ago our neighbor had a graduation party for one of his kids and had a lengthy fire woods display. Yes, it is illegal in Maryland.
Casey started barking when he heard it. It stopped and he needed to be walked. We have a large yard so his leash is not needed. However, something told me to leash him then. The fireworks started up again and he started to freak out by barking and pulling me toward the door to go back in.
Since then he is very paranoid when we take him out. He is looking at the sky all the time. Of course, thunder storms are an issues now. Sometimes he will go into a bathroom with no windows. I try to calm him down by talking to him.
Last night, again, the same neighbor started with the fireworks at about 10:30 p.m.. Our bedroom is on their side of the house. Casey was trembling, drooling like crazy and kept licking his mouth like he had cotton mouth. I finally got up and took him to another bedroom on the other side of the house and turned a box fan on high so he could not hear the fireworks. I had my arms around him and he was shaking me because he was so scared. We later went back to our room.
We are not looking forward to tonight and we will be here with him. He has never been like this and I guess once they cross over they never go back. I also never thought he could shed more than he does but since this started I am vacuuming every day.
I would recommend that you leave Lyra home. Best wishes on whatever you decide.
