Spike ate his food like crazy since we got him, but since he had to have his baby K9s taken out he wont eat like he used to. I thouht maybe it had something to do with us giving him wet food for 2 days once he got his teeth out like the vet said to do. But i dont want to put him on just wet food and when we mix them together he eats around his regular food. If its his regular food in his bowl he pushes it all out of his bowl and nibbles on the ones on the floor but doesnt eat all of it. I dont think he is getting enough food and he is too skinny but my vet says his weight is fine. Im worried has anyone had this problem.

We had the same problem, you should do a search other topic this has come up a lot.

But the jist is, since he knows the better side of wet food now he is being stubborn and doesn't want to go back!!

You need to just offer him the dry food for the scheduled time for 15 minutes. If he doesn't eat in 15 minutes take it up and do give him the food until the next scheduled time.

Dogs are smart they will NOT starve themselves. He will just have to give up the strike and eat the dry food.
Our dog was being a pain with food. In the end, we found a way of preparing her dinner with the right dog foods that she just adores.

The dog is not going to starve himself unless he is sick, and that is not case.

Try a different brand of dog food perhaps? We mix a spoonful of wet Science Diet with water, heat it in microwave, mash the wet food with water, then add the Science Diet kibble. I think heating the wet gives it more smell and we can use less of it than serving cold.

Good luck.
What kind of food do you feed him?
he eats nutro max
Since Spike ate his food without incident before the wet food introduction, maybe it is just stubbornness and all the suggested tricks will work. My situation is a little different, but I'll let you know how I deal with it, just in case. I have a corgi that will not eat unless he is starving, and he's been that way from the first day I brought him home. I tried every trick suggested (set the food out for a time then pick it up, no treats during the day, etc), and he's been to the vet, and they haven't found anything wrong with him, but still he will not eat dry kibble. I switched him to a high quality dog food (Wellness Chicken) and found a wet food that has a consistency of very well ground hamburger (Eukanuba). I dole out his dry kibble then put a spoonful of wet food in with it, add a splash of warm water then stir the crap out of it until everything gets covered in a sort of dog food gravy. He eats this most of the time and it keeps his weight where it should be. :-)
Thanks so much i'll try all these ideas and see if it works out.
I have the same problem with the corgi mix I have. She is a nibbler, while Duncan is a scarfer. If I put the just dry food out, Duncan will eat hers and his food unless I watch him 24 hours a day. Plus, she had an infection a while back and had to have food in her stomach to take the antibotics. So, I did the chicken and rice for two weeks with her, which after that, she tried to go on the hunger strike wanting only that to eat. So, I do what a lot of them do, I put about 2 Tablespoon of wet food in the bowl, add water and mix it into a gravy then put her 1/2 cup dry food in and mix together. She usually will eat it right away. Ocassionally, she'll refuse to eat, and that's when the 15-20 minute rule goes into affect.

Like what's been said, a dog will not starve itself to death unless it's ill; and I've NEVER heard of corgi bones beside a full food bowl. I heard that either on this website or on Gocorgi...LOL
Camber does not like Nutro at all for some reason... Well, if it was up to her, it would be mix of Roquefort and Lamb, but that one is not going to happen.

She is all jazzed up about Science Diet.
First, you don't want to go switching foods a lot. Dogs have very sensitive stomachs and it will give them indigestion. As for Nutro, there's nothing inherently wrong with the food. Many folks feed it because it has a rice base rather than wheat. The Max brand does not have the quality of the Natural Choice, containing several kinds of meat as well as byproducts and fillers. They are owned by M&M/Mars, but Science Diet is owned by Colgate/Palmolive and Iams/Eukaneuba is Proctor & Gamble. None of them have good track records on what they put in their food and how it is processed.

When a dog, in general, is given wet food they will turn their noses up to dry. It's like a junk food diet to them. But if you are diligent when you feed about your schedule, they will return to dry. You just have to get over thinking you're starving them. A cat will look you in the eye and starve. A dog will only go so long and they'll eat.

So, choose a nutritious food (http://dogfoodanalysis.com) and stick with it. All will be well.
Hi Cindi,

I noticed you mentioned Eukaneuba in your post. I'm a bit worried because I feed my puppies Eukaneuba.
You say that they don't have a good track record? What is wrong with it, as Im trying to find the right kind of food for my pups. I used to feed them Hills before I switched to Eukaneuba.
Eukaneuba was one of the better foods and used quite a bit by breeders. However, when they were purchased by Proctor & Gamble, like every other dog food bought by a US manufacturer, they downgraded their standards for production using ingredients from outside the US as well as included more in the way of fillers and byproducts. It's a shame, really. The best thing to do is read labels and do research. The website I mentioned, http://dogfoodanalysis.com, is a good one.

We have chosen to go with food that has no corn, wheat, soy, byproducts, steriods, antibiotics and is gluten-free. And we've found the dogs are much, much healthier.
OK so nutro is bad. I have been doing some research and i found a few dog foods that seem ok but have mixed reviews which scare me. So if you use the brand or kno of someone who does and has no problems please let me kno. Canidea which some say its a very good dog food but has a lot of bad reviews on a formula change that causes vomit and loose yellow poo. Wellness core seems to be going through the same problem according to the reviews. Cant find any reviews on Fromms Gold or Blue Buffalo. But I don't think i want to trust blue buffalo since its a petsmart/petco brand and that's what got me in this situation in the first place. and evo has a problem with being to rich for dogs tummies. I love spike and i want whats best for him and i want to find a good dog food that he will eat and wont hurt him.
