I have a wedding to go to and it's an hour away.  I have never left Ella longer than 3 hours in her crate and am worried about leaving her.  She is 10 months old now.  She really doesn't go in her crate unless I put her in there.  I guess she will go in and take a drink from her water dish but that's about it so I don't think she likes the crate that much.  I usually set her up with a few treats and chew toys when I leave and sometimes she yawns when I come home so I believe she must just sleep while in there.  I just wondered how long I could leave her crated?  I hate to do it but she has proven that she is not yet able to be left out alone as she has chewed several holes in our drywall when we've been gone!  Thanks for your input!!

5-6 hours is my personal limit for leaving my 1-year old crated. I set him up with something safe & distracting just before I head out the door (a kong with peanut butter & treats hidden inside). Just be careful about what you leave them alone with, of course (soft stuffing-filled toys are choking hazards).

If you're worried about the length of time consider hiring a dog-walker to come somewhere in the middle of when you're going to be gone. This way your puppy could have two 3-hour intervals in the crate before & after her walk instead of a 6-hour stint.

Thanks for your reply.  The wedding was today and we were gone a total of 4 hours!  Not too bad.  All went well.  I like the "dog-walker" idea but my shepherd does NOT take well to strangers so that'd be a problem for us.   Both Ella and my shepherd were so excited to see us!  :)

Sophie sleeps in her crate at night for 8 hours with no problem.

I appreciate your reply!  I left her in the crate for 4 hours and she was ok when we got home!  Her momma is just a worry-wart, lol.

Elli sleeps in her crate. Has ever since she was 11 weeks. If we know we are going to be gone for a bit, we give her a super long walk and run around time so she is pretty pooped before she goes it. A cookie or two and her favorite toy, and she is set. She sleeps the entire time.

We left her for 4 hours and went to the wedding and she was just fine!  I think I worried too much about it.  Thanks for your reply.  I appreciate it.  :)

We left the TV on (with no picture.....my shepherd attacks the TV if he sees an animal on..ugh)...and we  put a few toys in her crate, including a stuffed kong so she probably tired herself out trying to get the goodies out.
