In part due to reading about dogs whose owners could not afford necessary surgeries and have had to turn to CorgiPals and other ways to raise money, I decided pet insurance would be a good idea for peace of mind.  I read the post by one of our members who works for Trupanion (Canadian company), and I looked into their policies first.  The thing I didn't like was that unless your dog is neutered, there are several things they won't cover.  The prices were otherwise reasonable.  Then I checked into our "own" option through this site, the ASPCA insurance where we get a special rebate as a group (you have to join the "insurance" group on mycorgi to get the discount).  This policy was comparable in price and also had good coverage.  I asked around and my pet sitter said she uses VPI. That is the one I went with in the end, it is very detailed in what it does and does not cover and it seemed to have the most comprehensive coverage of the three. I had looked into pet insurance years ago when we had our first Corgi, but it costs a lot more to enroll an adult dog than a puppy.  Hopefully, we will never need to use the policy, but for $25 a month, I will have one less thing to worry about.  I'm sure many of us spend more than that at Starbucks in a month...
