Well we brought our 4th corgi home monday night and although the others haven't had time to get adjusted to him, they are being mean.... not in a physical way, but they corner him and bark, it is almost like they are in a "click". I feel so bad, what should I do to get them more aquainted and comfortable? The new guy, Kaenin, just sits there, tail between his legs and head down letting them bark at him :( He is a 2 year old that just was fixed so I am sure our other male feels intruded upon but it is getting to be a competion it seems for affection. Please help!!!

Hi Brent and Vannessa, here's one of my old replies on adding a new member to an existing pack. In a nut shell, both of you will walk 1 dog in each hand, you need to do this side by side, no sniffing or greeting, focus on the walk. Other tips are in the replies. Having 4 dogs is a different sport, I tried to walk 4 corgis on my own for 2 months all by myself and it was VERY hard, especially when I needed to bent over and pick up their poop. When all of them decide to go in the same direction, brace yourself, watch your leash and don't get rope burn. My advise: You two will need to split the responsibility, you will feed them separately and pay attention to them separately, never ever throw treats in mid air. Remember to walk them everyday on leash for 45-90 mins rain or shine, otherwise they will take over the leadership role for you. It'll take at least 1 month for Kaenin to figure out the new home, rules and hierarchy. Good luck!

Here's my 4 pack 3 years ago (Vienna, Tucker, Oscar and Mocha). and here's my other 4 pack (Vienna, Amie (fluffy cardigan),SamSam (cardigan) and Mocha) 1 year ago.

Beautiful family even the humans are nice looking

I would recommend splitting them up and introducing them one at a time, not as a whole pack. When they get into pack mentality all bets are off. Start with your most dominant, leash walk them side by side as Sam suggested, and once they are ok together with no reaction from either then you can probably try them together in the backyard or somewhere where they are free. If your dominant dog accepts the newcomer, generally the more submissive dogs will follow suit.  If you introduce a pack to a single dog there will be a lot of ganging up and shows of dominance (one of my MAJOR issues with dog parks). Just sit at a dog park and watch introductions as a new dog enters the park. EVERYONE runs over and sniffs, pokes, prods and it takes just one overly dominant or aggressive dog to set the whole pack on the new comer.

Thank you sooo much. We also have 2 children and they love helping so we all usually have a leash to hold when walk! Kaenin seems semi comfy, and I can tell he likes having a family because his prior owner just had him outside all the time. We shall see in a month or so, I am just worried about the other 3 who seem to think Kaenin is the invader.

btw, love the pic!!

I totally agree with walking. You might also want to gate off an area to switch the current pack around with the new corgi. For some reason they seem to accept a new member if they get used to the scent. I have used this method with cats before and it really helps. Good luck with your pack.
