Domino has been biting at her hind end lately as if she's got fleas. Only, we've bathed her, combed her, and checked her over for fleas and ticks and have found nothing. She is shedding quite a bit for summer so I don't know if maybe the itchiness is a side-effect of that or maybe because she's hot and uncomfortable. I'm thinking about having her dipped; any opinions?

I've also thought about trimming and/or shaving her just to cut down on the heat. She's mostly black and we live in south Texas...

I definately would not shave her!!!!! They sell cooling pads at petco or petsmart you could get. The fur protects them from the heat and cold!!!!! It may be allergies, I would look into that!
Please don't shave her!! Keep water available for her at all times. Soak her on oatmeal shampoo, that will help soothing her. The cooling collars are also a good idea.
Drag had the same problem about two weeks ago. He needed his glands cleaned. The vet will do it or sometimes the groomer! my groomer tried desperately to get me to shave dragster and i told her no many times. Shaving them can actually cause a lot of damage from the sun and make them more prone to sickness. Corgis have that thick coat for a good reason :D i hope that helps! i totally understand the Texas heat. Dragster likes me to freeze water bottles and gallons of water and he lays on them. :)
No shaving...please! Brushing alot or using a deshedding tool I would recommend. Letting her get wet might help and the other tips here are good. Leo is black mostly and gets hot. I plan to get a hard plastic kiddie pool for the boys for hot days (used only with constant supervision) I hope they will like that. Bathing helps to get rid of some shedding hair and being wet would make her cooler afterwords I would think.
Oops forgot to add, check with your vet first. Allergies could be an issue. Also they should be able to advise you on proper treatment for fleas if they are a cause.
Dax has been doing that lately too. I know he doesn't have fleas because I've checked and checked (because believe me, I DON'T want to deal with that again), but he keeps on biting and scratching. I think it is the shedding, because it's been CRAZY lately. Like everyone else said, please don't shave her. It'll hurt more than help. A small trim might not hurt, but I doubt it would make too much of a difference. I would just keep on brushing and brushing and brushing. I've brushed Dax so much I think he lost about 5 pounds of fur! And I'm in south Louisiana, so I know how bad the heat/humidity can get. I'll bring poor Dax in the backyard to play, and he's done and plopped down panting after 10 minutes, even with water. Lol. I've never had his glands cleaned, though, so that could be it. Maybe I'll try that...
If your Domino is allergic to fleas - well all it takes is 1 flea to drive them crazy and one flea is really hard to find on a tri. Charlie is allergic to fleas, grain and lots of other stuff. You may want to invest in a furminator if you dont have one already. It works so much better on Charlie than traditional grooming tools. He is shedding like crazy right now and especially around his hind end. I think all that loose hair would have to make them itch - furminator to the rescue!
Thanks for all the tips! I didn't realize shaving would be such a bad idea; I'm glad I didn't do that.

I think I'll take her to the vet tomorrow and ask him what he believes might be the problem, she's been seeing the same one since the day we got her so he knows her personality and he might be able to tell what's going on. :)

She is shedding like crazy right now - which for a tri is a pain in the butt; her hair shows up on EVERYTHING I have no matter what color. lol.

The idea of letting her get wet might work, only she doesn't like the bath tub and we live in an apartment. I don't know if the swimming pool would bother her since it has chlorine in it. I've seen video of Corgis in pools before so I doubt it; only I don't know how my apartment complex would feel if their pool was spontaneously laden with dog hair. :)

We'll see what the vet recommends; I'll keep you posted.
