Job Traveling with Dogs
I just started a new job today which is great because I really needed to get out of my old position, however, it sounds like I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling. At least 2-3 days (overnight) a week for 3 weeks before each college semester (3x's a year), in addition to long day trips frequently each month, some that may require either leaving extremely early in the morning (4 AM) or the night before.
I'm sure I won't know exactly how this will all affect things until I get deeper in and start to actually do it, but right now I am extremely nervous about how this will affect my dogs. Even if I am able to avoid overnights except for the 3 weeks 3 times a year (still 9 weeks a year total), it sounds like I will still be forced to subject Sky and Lyla to long days without me being at home.
I am single and live alone and have no one to care for my dogs when I'm not here. For overnight trips I can board them (although I don't like doing it and it gets VERY expensive), but I don't know what to do about the long days. Doggie DayCare just gets too expensive for me to do too often. Does anyone else travel this much with dogs? How does it work out? I am just hoping that this doesn't become an unfair situation to the puppies.... I don't think I could bear having to even think about giving them up!!

I travel with my dogs, the price for boarding is pretty much the same as the extra pet fee in hotels. Depending on where I go, for how long, there are times I prefer leaving the dogs with friends that I feel confident with. May be it's time to make some friends in Tulsa?

I have used vet techs from our vet 's office to come and stay with mine when I am gone. Since we are in a college town that may be easier for me but it costs less than boarding and is less traumatic. It does entail someone staying at your house though. There are also services that will come to your house regularly but I am not comfortable leaving them alone overnight. You could talk to the doggy day care for ideas to care for your dogs and keep the cost down. They may have some suggestions in your area. Also your vet is a good resource. Good luck.

I am in the same situation. I don't have a new job but we have added a lot of events that will take me away for a week at a time each month until March. Unfortunately, I am now also single so I need to find an option that works for both my wallet and Monty's need for people time. I am in Frederick, MD if any MyCorgi friends want to help or have a recommendation. I am looking into some home boarding options which seem to be plenty in the area and a little more affordable than a standard kennel/doggie day care. Good luck and Congrats on your new job!
