Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes are about to eat Bubba up. The other day I was taking some pics of him arount 5-6:00 pm and didn't notice until I enlarged one of the photos in the camera's viewvfinder and counted 12 mosquitoes on him!! Some were on his ears, chest and feet and a couple on his muzzle. They seem to be more of a problem between 4:30-7:30 pm for some reason.

Short of investing in some expensive trap, I'm mot sure fwhat to do about this and suggestions would be appreciated. I've already talked with his vet about it and didn't get any encouraging words since I knew you couldn't put DEET on him and they didn't really have any suggestions. I even made a mix of vinegar/water and sprayed it on his back but that didn't seem to help.Then I tried putting a dryer sheet under his collar but after a few rolls in the grass, that came off. I give him Intercepter heart worm meds but, I still don't like them flocking all over him biting him in numerous places...just makes me nervous seeing them.

Not really. It has a light scent of lemon (from the lemon grass) and a slight menthol scent from the Euc.

It smells a whole lot better than bug spray! :P

Oh, I like bug spray-smells like women's Obsession. :) Well, I tried the candles out back so, we'll see if that helps. I also made some "traps" from an old 2 liter Coke bottle with black paper wrapped around it and put water, sugar and a tablespoon of yeast in it. It's suppose to attract them and they get stuck in the sugar. I'll leave it out overnight and see if there's a "yield" tomorrow.

Well, that was a bummer. Made this concoction and the wind blew it over during the night! However, I did see a lot of gnats and mosquitoes buzzing around the mix this morning so I decided to make some more. This time I reinforced the bottle with bricks around it so hopefully that'll keep it from tipping...we'll see. I also set out a big citronella candle yesterday around 4:30 till about 9:00pm.

I think if the guy out back would clean up the back of his yard that would help as I saw an old tired sitting up with water in it along with several old dog crates-all had water in them and it hasn't rained in over a week here. Maybe I could spray them with something as I know he's not concerned about it.

Hi there, i also use home made recipes. But for a quick repel- DOWNEY DRYER SHEETS they work great. We also use it on the horses and ourselves and it WORKS. You can just rub the sheet all over their ears and back and where ever and their convienent to carry around with you. Also keeps em smellin fresh. Try it out.

I've heard of that before but it didn't make sense. I guess it's something about the scent they don't like. Nevertheless, I'll try anything at this point. I did spray the back area where they seems to congregate. Hopefully, that will help as well.

As far as the neighbor with the water in the crates and tires you can pour a small amount of mineral oil or vegetable water into the water. It will float on top and it suffocates the mosquitoe larvea. It works really well and its inexpensive!

I wish I had seen this yesterday afternoon. I could have saved some money. I had to go to Lowe's to get a new weed eater since my old Ryobi died on me a few weeks ago. I looked around in the pest/yard supplies and found some "Mosquito Dunks" that looked like little 2 1/2 inch doughnuts that kills the larvae and you just place one, or part of it, into any area that holds water, like an old tire. Hopefully it will work as advertised. Thanks for the recommendation as I'll use that too.
